Based on your 14% of the cap logic. After Mahomes gets his new contract, he will not win another Super Bowl?
It’s been reported that Deshaun prefers a shorter deal, I doubt this changes that any. But Mahomes just got PAID
The Chiefs organization with Andy Reid & Front Office provides Mahomes with the confidence to take a 10 year deal. Watson better take a shorter deal to maintain any sort of leverage if the Texans start to go South.
In general longer contracts don’t work out for either party. The market usually shifts, player skill declines, and at the end of it the usual outcome is relief that the deal is over. Mahomes can well be different due to his ability, but if he gets hurt the Chiefs will be in cap hell until they can get out of this contract. They’re gonna end up losing Chris Jones in all likelihood, and prob won’t be able to afford all offensive pieces once they’re up for renewal.
Be curious to see if they can negotiate a deal that is indexed to the salary cap with an annual guarantee by a certain date on the league calendar?
I am curious to see if there are any caveats to allow paybumps down the line. In 10 years, the QB market can be reset idk like 3-4 times. But for sure this will already be a record amount annually, and covid will make a dent in the upward trends of future contracts if the cap doesn't increase.
That contract is going to be an albatross. 10 yr 450 mil, minimum 140 mil guaranteed? Ask Rams and Eagles if they would take back extensions and they weren’t close to that. Mahomes is the man, but 10 years in NFL is a long time and all it takes is one injury
