Quarantine times need to be adjusted, clearly, 3 weeks and 2 negatives aren't enough. CDC releasing a sick patient to the public is gross incompetence to me, that just can't happen.
What is enough, though? 8 weeks? 12 weeks? 5 negative tests? This is a virus we're still learning about and can't fully/accurately test for - there's not going to be any perfect solutions.
We have known for a while that there have been cases of incubation periods exceeding 3 weeks. If this is the case, I imagine quarantine should last at least 4 weeks. Whatever the longest incubation period that has been recorded is, our quarantines should be longer.
I’m not saying you’re wrong but who can afford to be in quarantine that long? Financially I would be fine. But I’m in graduate school and really REALLY want to get this over with. I’m not sure how to stop this before it is everywhere in every state; in every country with sick people everywhere. Seems inevitable
That's pretty close to home. Surgical face masks are sold out everywhere I've checked. On Amazon, bogus things of that nature are being sold for outrageous prices. Supposedly, Amazon is cracking down on it, but I haven't seen evidence of it being very effective. Pretty weird times.
Most of the medical people I know agree with the surgeon general: please don't go out buying face masks. Just limit time in big crowds, mind what you're touching in public, and wash those hands on the regular.
I don't think there is a treatment yet. Just fluids, providing oxygen, and trying to keep the patient from infecting nurses and doctors. They are trying various antiviral drugs but I haven't heard that it's very helpful. We'll know more over the next two weeks as we get more diagnosed cases here in the states.
yup, practice good hygeine. If you're old, have a host of co-morbid conditions, immunocompromised, or very young then take extra precautions. The hysteria is unreal
Thanks If someone is in general good health . . . . . Is the expectation that they would simply get over it? Rocket River
According to a study in China (of about 70,000 cases, so GOOD data), 99.1% of people, of all ages, recover if they didn't have serious pre-existing conditions (like heart disease or diabetes or an ongoing cancer case). That said, a lot of people do get pretty darned sick before they recover. Also, the percentage, as others have said, is probably even better. Most scientists think there are a ton of very mild, undetected cases walking around. So that makes the bad cases and deaths look more probable than they really are.
It’s just how people are. Heart disease and cancer is the cause of half of all deaths in the US but instead of worrying about what actually will kill them people focus on SARS, Ebola, Coranovirus, etc. They stock up on face masks and canned goods instead of exercise and a healthier diet.
yup, as it is with most viral illnesses. The way you get better after a cold or the flu is no different than this.
