Isn't it nice having a real deal 3 and D wing again?

    Russ
    Harden
    Covington
    Tucker
    Gordon
    House
    Rivers
2 more plus defenders that can shoot and there’s your SOLID 9 man rotation.

Roco replaced Capela and is always playable. Gets you just a little closer to having a fully competitive roster. We are CLOSE!

Isn't it great for once not to have another short 'thicc' again?

    Need more Killer B's baybeeee!!

    6'8 Boe Harkless 7'2 wingspan
    6'10 Jonah Bolden 7'3 wingspan
    6'8 Bomari Spellman 7'2 wingspan
    6'8 Bismack Biyombo 7'7 wingspan

And some better 3ball shooting, hustle D and ball handling:

    6'3 Tyler B Johnson 6'7 wingspan
    6'7 Ryan Broekhoff 6'10 wingspan
    7'0 Dragan Bender 7'2 wingspan

Greater wingspan, lateral agility, high energy/youth and athleticism are necessary for Rockets to maximize new defensive system of gang rebounding, defensive disruption and switch everything.

    5'9 Chris Clemons 6'2 wingspan
    6'3 Austin Rivers 6'7 wingspan
    6'3 Ben McLemore 6'8 wingspan
    6'6 Danuel House 6'8 wingspan

Also neeed to replace the stiffs who cannot see court time because they are unable to defensively switch or shoot 3ball:

    Tyson
    Harty

And Thabo is nice player but too old and no offense whatsoever.

Mavs, Bulls, Suns are still hunting for players.

    Rumor is Celts too.

Teams will make room for player like Harkless IMO.

Not disagreeing at all, but what have you been seeing that Covington has over Ariza? more size/strength?

I think it's as simple as RoCo is younger. When Ariza was in his prime, I don't think anyone can deny that Trevor was the better player. The tenacity and assertiveness with which RoCo switches on defense allows for our other guys to settle into the switch a little bit easier as well. I've noticed that because RoCo is so aggressive on the switch, other teams will lose that incredibly brief window where they can find an open cutter. That's something that an older Ariza can't do anymore.

Last I saw, TT wasn't getting bought out though. And if he does, he's almost a certainty to head to one of the LA teams.

RoCo is the better disruptor. His career numbers for steals, deflections and blocks are clearly better than Ariza's.

And Ariza never made an All NBA 1st Team.

    Nah.

I will take Covington right now over any incarnation of Ariza with the Rockets.

Covington is just a better overall defender.

    Best Finishers
    1. Russell
    2. James
    3. PJ (with his tear drop from the corner off the 3)
    4. Eric Gordon (though he misses many and then complains and doesn't get back on D)
    5. Rivers/House/Bmore (Good/Bad depending on whatever they ate for dinner)..

He is quicker than Ariza and can guard in the post better. Both Ariza and Covington are deceptively strong. Ariza is a little longer than Covington but not as good a ball handler and a step slower.

Both are very good modern defenders, Covington is just better.

Jonah Bolden has RoCo-like potential as a disruptor too.

Except at 6'10 with 7'3 wingspan and better playmaking ability.

Is he really? I don't have a strong enough opinion on the comparison. But I question a prime Ariza vs Covington, and would think they are at least equal.

Interesting. I haven't been able to watch the full games for the last two games to notice your observations on the superior ballhandling and first step.

Also, excited to see more of the marquee matchups with superstars. I know he guarded Lebron a bit, but Ariza's strengths were how smart he was against guys like Kobe and KD. I remember ariza clean sripping/blocking kobe on more than a handful of occasions so my respect for him when he was in his defensive prime is fairly high. But lookin forward to seeing more from RoCo. He does look physically more imposing haha.

Interesting. Appreciate the observations about the aggressiveness on switching. Roco does seem more physically imposing while Trev is more lean, and reliant on his length. But yeah, trevor in his prime did make things tough on guys like kobe, kd, etc., so I'm looking forward to seeing how RoCo fairs against other marquee matchups. Figuring out whether his help defense is more a strength of his then his one-on-one defense, which wouldn't be a bad thing for our newfound commitment to switch-everything.

Was browsing the Wolves forum a couple weeks prior to this trade. They were talking about how Covington is actually a pretty mediocre man-on-man defender, but quite good at team defense. I found that interesting.
