I ran across this video Trying to figure out how accurate this is .. . . . anything to add to it. (Keep them Nawthenahs out) Rocket River
If you go to the Youtube page the thumbs up/down is about 60% positive. That's low. eight percent Asian? Those numbers have to be wrong. Guy talks more about tornadoes than he does floods or hurricanes as a natural disaster. Nerd really plays up humidity. Like, it's deathy. Guns are bad. Traffic- yeah, it's bad. b****es about allergies...but that's fair. Apparently we call cold fronts 'Blue Northers' Ok, he said it snows quite a lot. Junk video.
I like how he says, "Houston suffers from many kinds of natural disasters, like tropical storms...and hurricanes." Yes, we suffer from big storms, as well as really big storms. "Blue Northers" definitely a northern Texas/Oklahoma thing.
1. Swamp 2. Humidity 3. Traffic 4. Swamp 5. Bugs 6. Traffic 7. Impending Doom 8. Swamp 9. Humidity 10? Landry's
He said it floods like every weekend. Plus not everyone commutes from the suburbs. My commute is like 20 minutes. And that weather in the 20's "for a few days" doesn't really exist. Bugs and heat do suck though.
I’m honestly very worried about future hurricanes and disastrous floods even tho I have yet to be seriously affected by these things as of yet...it could be only a matter of time tho...I’ve never once thought about tornadoes the heat and humidity can get annoying AF at times, and don’t even get me started on the mosquitoes everything else he mentioned is whatever...no city is perfect what I love most is the diversity, food, and overall hospitality...I have everything I need here, it would take a lot for me to ever move

I just found it a bit hilarious because I kept thinking. . . .if this is the worse you can come up with it ain't that bad Rocket River
Cliff notes version: Houston - like every other city in the world - has it's good points and it's bad points.
What @Wooderson posted is pretty accurate. Several of the things in the "Top Ten" thingy are accurate, if grossly exaggerated here and there (snow? really? SNOW?). Texas isn't as flat as the guy said. Yes, large chunks of Texas are, but a whole lot of the State has hills and such, even some mountains. Allergies? When we moved to Austin in 1980, my allergies cleared up and stayed that way for several years. Now I seem to be allergic to everything here. At least it isn't flat. I have to add something. The person who made this video is a wimp.
I'll give a list as a native. 1. Insufferable summer heat 2. Terrible air quality, and chem plants / oil refineries blow up 2-3 times a year 3. Hurricanes and insane flooding, many houses w/flood damage, high insurance rates 4. Ridiculous traffic, lots of terrible roads, and constant construction. 5. Poor water quality 6. High crime rates 7. Ugly scenery, flat topography, lacking enough public parks/land 8. Poor public transportation, not safe for biking 9. People are dicks/drivers who are reckless. I couldn't put into words how exhausted I am of this and how it's affected my life. Probably isn't Htown specific, but it's been my experience here. 10. The poverty rate is 2nd highest amongst the top 25 metro areas in America. While some tout cost of living as a positive, for many it isn't, for many people the cost of living has exceeded wages. The Texas/federal $7.25 min wage isn't cutting it for Houston. Positives are, while many people are dicks, there are also some amazing people in Houston, the diversity is wonderful I enjoyed growing up around so many different people/cultures. Food is great, and it being a huge city means there's a lot going on all time which can be fun.
1. Insufferable summer heat True, but the heat is miserable anywhere in the south 2. Terrible air quality, and chem plants / oil refineries blow up 2-3 times a year Disagree Houston's air quality is generally good and is much improved. Refineries don't blow up that often. 3. Hurricanes and insane flooding, many houses w/flood damage, high insurance rates This might be the biggest problem. 4. Ridiculous traffic, lots of terrible roads, and constant construction. Every large city has terrible traffic -- the road quality is good for a big city. 5. Poor water quality Perhaps certain neighborhoods, but I've never had bad water from the tap anywhere. 6. High crime rates Certain areas are bad but overall crime rates are normal for a large city. 7. Ugly scenery, flat topography, lacking enough public parks/land Houston has made some improvements, but overall it's an eyesore. 8. Poor public transportation, not safe for biking Agreed. 9. People are dicks/drivers who are reckless. I couldn't put into words how exhausted I am of this and how it's affected my life. Probably isn't Htown specific, but it's been my experience here. People drive like **** everywhere - Houston is no worse. 10. The poverty rate is 2nd highest amongst the top 25 metro areas in America. While some tout cost of living as a positive, for many it isn't, for many people the cost of living has exceeded wages. The Texas/federal $7.25 min wage isn't cutting it for Houston. Houston is diversifying away from energy/etc, but so many families are living paycheck to paycheck working low paying service jobs. There are countless good jobs and careers in Houston like any large city but they do seem hard to find or require a move or ridiculous commute.
