In his postgame tonight, he stated: "Against Houston, with all their switching, you have to do that. You have to be able to rely on your teammates because they're really good defensively on the first exchange, the first move, the first pick-and-roll. If you keep moving it, you can get an opening. But we didn't really explore that enough." Did you guys take this as a compliment? I liked hearing the word "good" in the same sentence as "defense" and "rockets", but looking deeper into it, he's basically saying that our defense is fools gold.
not sure why that would be viewed as a compliment he’s basically saying that the Rockets are capable of taking away the 1st option, but after that it’s breakdowns galore and u can get openings for easy baskets...a characteristic of many terrible defensive teams
We just need to keep pressure on the other teams. There should be no space in between the ball handler and the defender. Make your man give the ball up. Its supposed to be frustrating for other teams. We will get there.
that's a common way most all coaches speak, imo. Anything to say "keep the ball moving". Except for MDA, he says, "We just kept passing on our first shot. gotta stop moving the ball just because we're aftraid to shoot. That's why Ryno doesn't play anymore."
Otis obvious lol. start of the season we wasnt switching. switching should always be our. identity while harden is here. dont know why they try other thing then always come by with what works. switching is our gimmick that works. just own it n b a top 10 defense with it like we end u being
IMO, the problem with our switching is that it's highly inconsistent and guys are overplaying off-ball, and ball-watching soooo much more than last year, and even more so than 2 yrs ago. Add to that, that our personnel has only 1 and a half defensive "stoppers" (PJ getting a little old though, and Austin is also undersized). Literally every hand off from the big to the opposing teams' guard has us spiraling in circles, and because there's such a lack of trust there, guys are paying attention to their teammates' guy, that they lose their own who's cutting backdoor for the layup. It was a field day of watching this over and over against Miami, and GS just didnt have the firepower to abuse it. Still hopeful we'll make strides though. I expect Clint to get his mojo back soon to provide more cushion for our defense at the basket
Exactly, after the initial set the defense has to rotate multiple times. I wish there was a way to remove the offensive players from a possession to highlight the breakdowns and also correct rotations.
@don grahamleone has the right idea! Let's get this party started!! (P.S.) HIT IT!!!!!! ....... ....... .......
Wat he said is that we are good on the first switch but we would crumble if their team kept on doing pnr or kept moving the ball.which says that the defense needs to be able to switch faster on on the 2nd ,3rd and 4th switch ,
What compliment are you looking for? Why does it matter? it sure sounds like he is saying that his team didn't do what they needed to do. That's his job to assess his team and correct bad stuff. It is not to compliment the Rockets. I hate these forums. They are dumb. If you have criticisms about the defense, put them out there. Hopefully you can make some good, new points. If I use this post as a guide, I doubt it. Maybe you should start to provide manners advice for rival coaches.
Some commentator or analyst recently (JVG, maybe?) was talking about that same point, that the Rockets weren't very good after the first switch, and he pointed out that this year, even the first switch was problematic. Whoever it was said the first switch was critical and everything afterward not nearly so much. My guess is experienced, well-coached offenses would be able to consistently exploit a defense that switches once well, then stumbles a bit on subsequent switches. In other words, we have our work cut out for us.
