Except I dont think we can afford a healthy Correa (financially beyond 2 years). Then the question becomes whether we get 2 years of cheap value and let him go for nothing, or get a good return and let him go early.
Again, not a decision they have to make just yet. They do need to decide on Springer and Cole now. What happens there will likely set forth subsequent moves. Altuve got extended, Bregman got extended, Verlander got extended. Springer may or may not. Cole may or may not. If neither of those two can be secured, there is actually more money in 2+ years to consider extending Correa. The next time Luhnow trades an all-star everyday player with club control, while the team is in the midst of being a contender, it will be the first time.
