I think Taron Egerton is pretty talented, this isn't a straight forward bio. Its going to be musical with fantasy sequences, should be interesting.....
Saw the preview while watching bohemian rhapsody. That “full trailer” made it look better than the other preview I saw. Thought it was kind of a knock off attempt at the time.
If Elton John said that Taron Egerton does the best interpretation of his songs then he was merely being charitable. That was terrible. Seriously terrible and will likely ruin the movie for me. The wife and I went to Boston last year for his final tour and, while clearly an old man now, that mother****er and his small band of five can still sing and perform like few other. The singing in that trailer does him a GREAT disservice and the fact that they have to keep calling out how "great" the singing lets you know what a shitshow it will be. I may be proven otherwise but I doubt it.
I suspect this may be true, but a standard for comparison might be Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. He didn't do an exact replica of Cash but a very believable interpretation as you say, and as the movie unfolded you just came to believe it. If the film is good, the singing itself will hopefully just blend into the whole and be believable.
Funny you should say that...the guy who was brought on to replace Brian Singer on Bohemian is the guy who directed this. His first film, Wild Bill, is excellent. He's also been great as an actor in Lock Stock 2 Smoking Barrels, Band of Brothers, and others.
