The craziest part is that the league basically forced Phili to hire him to replace Hinkie.

More meddling from the league. Just like the Paul trade. Just like our ref situation in game 6/7

The 76ers are expected to finish their investigation into allegations against Bryan Colangelo within the next few days, if not Friday, according to league sources.

The start of the NBA Finals on Thursday between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers was a factor in the timetable, the sources said. The league did not want the controversy to distract from Game 1. The NBA has not commented publicly on the matter.

Some league sources expect Colangelo to lose his job as the Sixers president of basketball operations.

NBA personnel have been on the West Coast this week attending agent-run predraft workouts. Colangelo was not at those workouts the last two days.

A league source said Colangelo was visibly shaken when the report broke while he was attending a workout in Los Angeles.

The Sixers announced the investigation on Wednesday morning in a written statement. As a result, Colangelo was not on hand for that day’s multiple workouts at the Sports Academy in Los Angeles, according to sources. Sources said the 52-year-old also did not attend Thursday’s multiple workouts in Las Vegas.

Numerous players and league sources suggested in the last two days that it will be difficult for Colangelo to keep his position with the Sixers as a result of the report.

“The only way that he’ll get out of it is if he comes with evidence that somebody set him up,” said a league executive, speaking on condition of anonymity. “If it is out there where they can’t prove either way, I don’t think he’ll keep his job. And if there’s involvement with a family member, it doesn’t look like he has a chance either.”

The Sixers must make a quick announcement on whatever they decide to do with Colangelo.

With the draft just three weeks away, and all-important free agency just a month away, the team needs some stability and to reestablish trust.

The Sixers have two first-round picks (10th and 26th overall) and four second-round selections in the draft. They are also preparing to make a big splash in free agency by targeting Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, a four-team league MVP. The team is also eyeing Oklahoma City all-star Paul George.

“This is a dark cloud that will hurt their prospects of signing quality players,” said another NBA executive.

Hoping we can keep this thread longer than the NBA "Finals" (sic) thread, but it's going to be tough once the weak start watching that manure pile.

Based on the amount of evidence now collected it’s highly likely that it’s either a family member or Colangelo himself. The amount of work needed to create such a multi-year trail of evidence would be very difficult and take a person who truly had a vendetta against him. Not like it’s impossible based on some of the talk GMs/executives have put on and off record for him, but at the same time who has the time/resources to do that? It would also need to be someone who is/was close to him and his family to be able to gather the material needed, which makes the circle relatively small. It’s much more likely that he (or a family member) accidentally exposed one or more of these Twitter accounts to the wrong person/people and they leaked it out to The Ringer. But who knows.

I have a feeling even if Colangelo did not do it the Sixers may part with him anyway, especially since David Griffin is in the market for a job. If the Sixers were really in the LeBron sweepstakes they would buy out Colangelo and bring in Griffin, and just use this as a scapegoat.

This is karma to the Sixers and Colangelo for stabbing Hinkie in the back after he set all the foundation for their team. Colangelo esp. probably thought he can reap all the benefits after Hinkie already took all the flak for tanking.

I think Hinkie is a good GM, but I honestly think he's a little overrated now. I liked how much conviction he had with his process, but his fate was sealed when he picked Okafor over Porzingis. Had he drafted Porzingis, he would have a lot more to show than three injured centers and thus give the Sixers organization/fanbase some hope.

Obviously his process eventually paid off with Simmons, Embiid and Saric, but it was too late for him.

He wanted Porzingis, ownership wanted Okafor (aka it was really Colangelo slithering behind his back).

Just look at Hinkie's MO dude, he always went for the athletic and gifted athlete no matter what. Why the heck would he settle for an undersized center in Okafor when Porzingis was being seen as having as much potential as KaT? That Okafor pick has Colangelo's grimy finger prints all over it as can be seen in his burner account (calling him a class act but injured and the only Hinkie tenure player he didn't bash).

Btw too late? He got 3 good players in 4 years, that's not exactly a long time. If ownership didn't pressure him into getting Okafor, he would have had 4 good players in 4 years, that's as good as you can get. On the other hand Snakangelo wasted the top pick on a bum and also gave up their pick next year which could turn out to be the Nets pick. Disastrous.

The Fultz trade was one of the worst, ever. Not talking hindsight here- the value paid was absurd, AND you had Ben Simmons on your roster and had evaluated him as your primary ball handler (you knew Simmons could not shoot). So Colangelo did not evaluate this talent, at all, when making a trade like this. But hey Jonathan Givony liked it, and Colangelo got his face all over TV draft-night. Colangelo is a steaming pile of ****.

I don't know why NBA teams are still wanting to fund big collared shirts for Colangelo by giving him a GM role. He's screwed up teams in the past and is obviously mucking it up now in Philly too.
