It's still the greatest country in the world but we are heading in a very dark place. This election is looking like a referendum to that notion that despite everything (facts, violence, our own wellbeing) we will still go tribal.

Innocent until proven guilty. He hasn't been convicted of assault. It's now a given that the libs will have their excuse for losing yet another election. Russia, assault, etc. they have to have some reason for them to feel like they were right. It's like in sports when you lose, but then you call the opposing team's fans classless. First of all, we're not buying the "innocent until proven guilty" bit. If it were a Democrat, you'd be the first to be the judge and jury- as you've done many times before. Two eyewitnesses, including one from Fox News, and his campaign doesn't deny it but blames the reporters, and you're peddling that horsecrap? Nope.
Innocent until proven guilty is a matter of law. Gianforte will get a chance to prove his innocence or get convicted and hopefully sentenced and stripped of his seat, bringing more shame upon the Republican party (if he is guilty). That said, we also know that there are credible witness accounts of the assault that generally corroborates one another. The public can't wait until the courts make a decision, because the vote was today. Sure there is a minor chance that Gianforte is completely innocent, but the overwhelming information that has been released so far points to violent behavior from him. The good news is, Republicans are a combination of dumb and/or morally bankrupt, so there are no doubt some voters who voted for him thinking he is going to be innocent, and there are some who voted for him not caring that he assaulted someone.

Hard to gauge given the circumstances, so I mildly said it's may not completely represent the GOP party until you realize the party leaderships care about win at any cost and not remotely about character. But that's already mostly a given with Trump leading the pack. This is the GOP party. A party of low moral and character.
