Nobody was as dominant as Lidge when he was at his best. I will take it.

Agreed. It took the likes of Pujols a phenomenon to break him up..which is a testament to how dominant he was

He was showing some cracks prior...hell, he required the greatest Astros DP of all time to bail him out just one game prior (going back to last nights conversation!)

The Pujols HR just confirmed that he wasn't quite the same.

Now, 2004 Lidge? Perhaps the single greatest half-season/post-season run by a closer ever.

Yeah mentally he lost it. One reason I loved Oswalt so much was the game after that he came in and made Pujols look silly.

Giles threw like 7 sliders in a row tonight. That definitely reminds me of Lidge right before he left the Astros.

And I understand why the Astros chose Greers on for the closer spot, but man he makes me nervous every single time.

His rookie year was insane. McCullers got close last year but Jesus Christ.

    14-3
    ERA: 2.73
    FIP: 2.84
    WHIP: 1.05
    140 IP
He finished 5th in the Cy voting!

Had to DVR the game, just gone done watching it.

Glad to get back on the winning track. Tyler White is amazing, and it's good to see Giles look like the dominant guy he has been.

Fister had a decent outing (dominant by our early season standards) but his his velocity was alarmingly low. He only hit 87 a few times, and never hit 88. He threw a lot of pitches 84 and lower. I think he can still be an effective starter with poor velocity, but I don't see any way he has a really good season if he's around 84-86.

This is the first I'd seen him, kept waiting for the fastball, then I was like, oh.

The whole Kershaw - Bumgarner thing is hilarious. Hard to believe Kershaw just cannot do anything against the bum...and gets taken deep. At least he is laughing about it. The guy destroys the entire league at epic levels but cannot beat the Giants.

Most likely Bill Brown is doing the first road trip of the year then it's Blum the rest of the way.
