https://theundefeated.com/features/...freak-wants-to-go-back-to-his-nigerian-roots/ “I know from his last name that we are from the same tribe, the Yoruba tribe. His last name, which in Yoruba is spelled Adetokunbo, means ‘the crown has returned from overseas,’ ” Olajuwon said. Olajuwon also spent time with Antetokounmpo on the trip and said he enjoyed meeting his family.
The Rockets had the 14th pick. Trade from Toronto for Kyle Lowry but traded in a package for Harden, Steven Adams selected. Giannis went 15th in the Draft.
Interesting Article. Giannis grew up like a lot of first generation Nigerian-Americans. I'm surprised he hasn't been back to Nigeria yet. I assumed he knew more about his heritage.
That's cool, I've been saying for a while now that Giannis is the Olajuwon of this generation. Didn't even occur to me that they would even be this close genetically.
LOL, It's not that deep. Being part of a particular tribe in Nigeria is basically marking black, white, latino on a census in the US. There are 40 million Yuraba People in Nigeria.
Yeah I get that, but to be from the same group of 40 million on a planet where 6bn ppl live is fairly close, and just interesting to me because their impact on the league is stylistically similar. Both pogo stick freaks for their respective positions in their generation, stretching the imagination of what a big man can do. I think it's pretty cool. I think the tribe thing in Africa is similar to Arabia, it doesn't tell you much anymore. In truth these guys look like they can be from territories thousands of miles apart.
It is actually is deep if you think of Africa as a whole. Out of 1,2B people in Africa, less than 4% are from Yoruba https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_groups_of_Africa
You guys want to bring in the whole continent of Africa and the World into a conversation about NIGERIANS/West Africans. The culture of Africa vary GREATLY the farther you travel out of a region. In Nigeria alone, you go north, and it's all Muslims. When you start talking in those huge terms of course everything becomes deep. I'm going to start framing all arguments in the scope of the Milky Way Galaxy.
