Lesson learned: the next Democrat President will veto all spending bills and CRs and will demand Single Payer, Free College, Gun Reform, etc to not veto.

It's like Harden being blamed for not getting past the warriors or the QB of a football team. He's the leader and polls are showing that most people blame him...as they should...he was taking the mantle for the shutdown...

 

If you are correct, then Trump was a real idiot to say that he would shut it down, and take the mantle for doing so. He said it, and now he will have to live with it.

For what it's worth, I believe he is at least 88% responsible. The Democrats may deserve some small portion of the blame.

I think it’s more important than looking weak and scoring poltical points for the Democrats.

If they just gave in, and funded a border wall in the middle of desert just to appease Trump-

A. He’s not a good faith negotiator and could still veto the bill and ask for more.. and more... and more. There’s little indication that he’s not shutting down the government because he thinks it’s good politically.

B. What a horrible precedent for a major increase in the powers of the presidency.

The Trump Shutdown precedent could be used for anything. A Dem president could cite the Trump shutdown in an attempt to fund free college for all or healthcare for all, or you name it.

You simply cannot allow a president to extend their powers this way. It’s a standard spending bill resolution. The constitution clearly was not designed to pass large policy debates by this authoritarian approach.

This is a Democracy. He’s not king George. If the Dems give in, it’s not about scoring poltical points. It’s important mostly for the sake of our democracy to not allow this type of expansion of the presidential powers. They must stay firm and do a better job of making their case to the American public why it’s important. And it is IMO.

I don't doubt that it's being promoted as such but zoom in. That's not an axe cut or saw cut. And again it makes no sense since that tree isn't stopping them from driving on anything. Much easier to just drive wherever you want vs. chop a tree down in the middle of nowhere.

How are they responsible for keeping it going? Trump is holding the government hostage over a campaign promise he can’t keep. It is not the job of congress to rubber stamp any dumb ideas that a president promises on the campaign trail. If they give in on this, it sets a horrible precedent for the future. Trump 100% created this and owns it.

 

All this mess for just $5B? lol, This is so not MAGA.
