Needs to be put on the 40 man first. Perhaps they can remove Brady Rodgers or Jandel Gustave. I'm hoping Cionel Perez gets promoted soon as well since he's already on the 40
Liked this quote from Mariners GM Jerry DiPoto: "What always resonates with me is something I was taught very early in my executive and scouting career. John Hart was my general manager when I first came to the big leagues with the Indians in the '90s. When I finished up as a player and I was working in scouting with the Rockies and Red Sox, John told me, 'I'm going to give you one bit of advice. When you go out and you're watching players who aren't rising to the top of the prospect food chain but have a first or second round next to their draft status, look twice. Even if that player is struggling, look twice, because somebody along the way saw a quality in this player to believe he was one of best 50-60 players in the country.' A lot of the players we've acquired fit in that category. It's a wise baseball thought.“ Captures very well my prospect ranking philosophy and why I will almost always rate guys like Akeem Bostick and Ronnie Dawson and Riley Ferrell highly.
Javier just edges him in K% among astros starter prospects, but he's just barely not qualified. A quick glance shows Bielak in the top 5 among qualified full season prospects as well.
Not saying I don't take this into account for lower levels and very recent draft picks, but after a couple of seasons I prefer the guys in AA and AAA that beat up on these struggling 1st and 2nd round picks and then kick them while they are down. Edit: Dipoto is an odd choice for a quote about minor leaguie prospects.
Dean Deetz is starting a rehab assignment in Quad Cities today. Also I didn't see it mentioned here yet, but the Astros are apparently loaning Lupe Chavez to a Mexican league team. It's good that hes pitching again this year, but it's not terribly encouraging that he's going a second straight year without pitching in the Astros system.
What an odd deal with Chavez. I assume there’s some family situation he is dealing with, but I agree the fact that he’s not pitching for an affiliate doesn’t bode well.
Astros back end depth is starting to make leaps up the rankings. Encouraging that Lunhow is hitting on picks like he did for the Cards.
Tri City is a little light on 2018 draftees. Roster composition will likely change when everyone gets signed and perhaps shuffled through the complex training facility.
Lopez being on there is potentially encouraging, perhaps another legit lefty prospect. Serrano, Hunter Martin, and Alex House must be injured.
Given breakout years from Cionel, Corbin, and Josh James and JB falling off the map, how would you rank our top 10 pitching prospects so far?
Without knowing if Bukauskas' injury is a long term issue: Whitley Bukauskas Cionel Perez Corbin Martin Josh James Jorge Alcala Jairo Solis David Paulino Rogelio Armenteros Jayson Schroeder Hector Perez Patrick Sandoval Cristian Javier Tyler Ivey Framber Valdez With Whitley being in a tier by himself, 2-7 representing the 2nd tier being more or less interchangeable, and 8-15 being the third tier.
He's not a prospect. I'd probably put him 2nd if he was eligible (assuming his injury isn't career altering either)
Slap shot to LF, LFer falls down, throws the ball over the 3bman's head. Just saw him coaching 3B for Mississippi State (I think) in the college playoffs.
