Cue Morey: "To win in this league you have to be the team that lands the Dwight Howard's in their prime, not by overpaying them when it's too late"
A) obviously he's leaving, this isn't news. B) Parsons deserves Cuban, they both need to just shut the **** up.
It was still the right move and though it wasn't ultimately successful as far as championships, the team was competitive (up until this season) and went further than they had in a long time. Dwight is past his prime now but he had some good moments here.
Pretty much. Although he will be overpaid, I wouldn't be surprised if he played a little bit better due to Carlisle.
Don't mind Dwight as a person. Seems like a fun guy. Always positive. Would like him to show more grit on the court. But, that being said. See ya Dwight Max $$. No thanks
If Dwight joins the right coach and the hack-a-player is taken care of by the league this summer, it will greatly help him to have a bounce-back end of career. Nowitzki on the other hand is totally done. He's an average role player on the court now, can't defend anyone. Parsons and Matthews are role players.
Cuban is someone that will and can sign Dwight for a Max contract. He's the kind of owner who'll pay every single player he wants a max contract. Really wish he was our owner with Morey as GM.
Why do people say this? If you worked or knew a person who never worked any to improve a single skill from when they graduated high school, you'd still respect them? Those excuses for Howard's free throws are BS. He just doesn't work at it. Doesn't deserve respect.
I don't think it's that Dwight isn't working on improving his skills. By all accounts he does. He practices FTs, he worked on post moves with Hakeem. But he was never a finesse kinda guy to begin with. Also and that probably is the main issue with Dwight: 1) He is getting up there in age 2) He's had injuries to deal with and he has always been a player to rely on his athleticism. There have been lots of circumstances this season, where Dwight took ages to gather the ball after a pass (enough time for defenses to foul him), where he was late going up for a dunk (again allowing defenders to foul him or stop a potential basket) or where he was late jumping for a rebound. A prime Dwight would have finished those passes with authority or would have grabbed those rebounds. 3) Dwight was never a finesse guy and maybe his injuries don't allow him to move as well as he used to in the post. Add to that, that he doesn't really seem to have a feel for the ball when hoisting up his hook shots, you just never know what you are going to get. Some nights it will work, most nights it won't. I don't think it's due to lack of work ethic, he just isn't a finesse player and not very talented in that regard. 4) As for his FTs, yeah it is frustrating and you can't rely on him at crucial times in the game (which you should be able to do, when it comes to your 'superstar'). Again, he seems to be working on it, I just think it's more a mental thing for him. He seems to be shooting FTs well in practice, at least thats what people in the organisation say. But sure, I get that when a game is close or the Rockets are up, all a team needs to do is hack him. It will throw the offense out of whack and since Howard (probably due to lost athleticism) barely gets And1s anymore, that doesn't help either. Now, I'm as frustrated as most people with Dwight, I just don't think that his decline is due to him not working on it. I do respect him as a player, I'd even like him back in a Rockets uni if he agrees to a good deal (less than he would be getting on the current deal and a declining contract) but he is definitely not worth the max. If he is after a max, then all the best to him but he should take his talents elsewhere.
Because the Rockets' role players universally sucked this year, their star player came into camp fat and out of shape and didn't get going til a couple months into the season, their star center is physically declining, and their head coaching has been awful under both McHale and JB. At least the Mavs have a few decent players who bust their ass on the floor and a terrific coach in Carlisle.
Dirk don't want him. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dirk declining to comment on Dwight Howard speaks volumes. <a href="https://t.co/3myhWwc24H">https://t.co/3myhWwc24H</a></p>— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) <a href="https://twitter.com/espn_macmahon/status/725321834460106754">April 27, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Let Dwight walk. Then sign Noah and Horford. Use a Brewer to get those guys then sign Conley at point if we cannot sign Durant.
Noah/Capela Horford/DMo Ariza/Beasley Harden/??? Conley/PBev Looks great on paper! Conley could easily play the role that Ty was supposed to play this season. Horford would move to his natural 4-spot position. Would be nice to bring in a coach who can get Harden to buy into moving without the ball and let Conley set him up for easy buckets.
