I just got back. I agree...that was just three old guys up there, barely moving around. I was really disappointed.
I think they still play well, but man the acoustics in there are awful. Maybe the roof needs to be open for it to sound good in there. I hope U2 gets it figured out when they play there.
They released dates through the end of the year and showed Reliant as scheduled for October 14th, but then pulled those down. So maybe some things are currently being shuffled. Right now on the website it only goes up til September. http://360.u2.com/
Saw them at the rodeo a couple of years ago and the acoustics were so bad my ears were bleeding. All I could hear was Billy's guitar. No vocals, no bass (no low end at all), no drums, just lots of treblely guitar.
i read a few months back that they were back in the studio with rick rubin producing and the black keys helping out. that's awesome.
I saw them when they played the last show in the Compaq Center. I sat 20th row center on the floor, and I could have sworn that they were playing along with some backing tracks on some of the songs. Sadly, they were just going through the motions, except when they did a 3 song blues medley. During the encore, they brought out Gov. Rick Perry to play drums. It was less than exciting.
I remember you telling your account of that... Governor Good Hair came jaunting out on stage in warm up sweats to a loud chorus of boos and several hundred middle finger salutes...
ZZ Top rules. They are the best American rock band ever and maybe even my all-time favorite. They are pure Texas and I love them for it. I am really looking forward to the new album.
