My biggest issue with Bev's defence is when he just gives a dumb foul for absolutely no reason....
Like the end of any quarter just about - either he or Brewer are just about to foul someone.

Bev is a fantastic fit at PG next to Harden.

It's not a coincidence that all our defenders - Beverley, Ariza, Howard - are said to be slipping. Our coaching on the defensive end is the worst in the league if you factor in we have 3 capable defenders in the starting line up. We shouldn't be this bad. These guys are looking worse than they are because the team defensive set up is terrible. I don't buy that everyone's individual defensive skills regressed over the same summer.

On a good defensive team, where the coach instructs him not to overplay the ball, he won't overplay the ball. He's not really the type to go outside his game or ignore coaching instructions, that's not how his ego functions.

In the new age of the NBA, defense has become a bit more about chasing and harassing and roughing up 3pt shooters on the perimeter. He can be very very good at that. Certainly, a coach who could teach him a better balance between going for the ball and standing his ground would improve his defense a lot.

Finally, this guy doesn't get credit for hitting 40% of his 3's. I thought this was unimaginable, these types of players rarely develop a 3pt shot this fast. Given how hard a worker he is, I can see him becoming more and more capable of launching more 3's at the same %.

Finally, he's the only truly tough player we have on this team. We need more people with this attitude rather than less. I'm not a big fan of players acting macho, but sometimes as a matter of mental strategy you need to have guys who are willing to do the dirty work - throw a couple of elbows, talk trash, commit a hard foul on a star player.

I see him as a long term rotation player - from the bench or starting - as long as we have Harden, despite his average defensive production over the past couple of seasons. Yes, I know Lowe has tremendously exaggerated his value.

Bev has helped us immensely in quite a few games down the stretch through key end of game hustle and effort. Either by grabbing a vital offensive rebound despite being the smallest guy out there or an important steal.

He literally put him in there just to **** on Harden. Beverley hasn't been an elite defender in a long time.

I just don't like that Beverly isn't that good of a passer.

I think Bev would help to make the offense a lot better if he were a really good passer.

He hasn't. We need to trade him before the rest of the league figures it out.

But how many PG's can really defend the top PG's today? And on top of that, our team defense is horrible. Put Bev on a team that is really committed to playing defense, I don't believe Beverley would be a weak link. I'd say Beverley is the least of our problems this year.

he is a good defender and can be a beast if he plays in his natural position whcih is backup pg. his style is exhausting and he's not a highlys killed player which is why he's a perfect backup. somethign that went unnoticed is his games vs blazers. dame's best shooting game vs the rockets was at 41fg%. the other 3 were blow %40.

i dont get why so many on clutchfans dont get bev and ariza's natural roles. they're being over-played. i hope morey fixes this team and realizes those two true potential. its dumb as hell to play your role players 35-40mpg every game

In the past I didn't notice how blindly biased Lowe was towards some things/players, I still think he's amazing sports journalist, but some of his opinions need to be ignored.

Lowes post was the quintessential "I only watch the highlights" perspective

There is no natural role to speak for any Rockets.

You are playing with James Harden, when the Rockets will set a pick for him with guards or wings, the whole purpose is just to draw a shamal player to Harden and let him play iso.

You, on the other hand most likely will always stay behind the line, the Rockets shot so many threes, one of the main reason is they have to stay behind the to create spacing for Harden, that's how the system designed.

When the ball will get to your hand, it's most likely will be a broken play and more than likely, your shots will be like shlt.

And then on defense, you will always need to rotate, simply because on your side there is one guy never like to move much - say to reserve his energy on offense.

That's the way how it works, that's how to build around Harden.

Look, other team has defense specialist like the thunder's Andre Roberson, but he will never need to take any bad show with two seconds left, and he doesn't need to cover for Durant or Westbrook on defense.

Putting Tony Alan on this team won't help the defense much as he can't cover 2 guys at the same time.

Beverly is a good individual defender, the issues with this year have been team defense. Obviously Harden's defense has been mediocre all year, but the PF position has been extremely weak.

The gist of the Marc Gasol all stars is that it's non superstars who he thinks is fun to watch. In Bevs case, he likes watching his Irritating defense on other point guards. Nowhere does he say Pat is a elite defender. He has done this column for a few years now. It's a fun opinion column like how he does the league pass ranking and how he ranked the designs of the courts or once he ranked team nicknames.

I don't know why anyone would be upset by this article.

thats a weird way to put it but you further proved my point..i think?

the system is flawed to its core. i catn wait for the offseason to see if rocekts keep being r****ds or get real about how terrible they are

Where were you when Beverley actually contributed to couple of 50+ winning seasons before this season?

Thanks for providing the voice of truth and reason.
Funny that some people here would take exception to Beverley getting some well earned recognition.

I know everyone likes to blame on the system.

But keep in mind that the season before Harden came here, while the Rockets collapsed in the last 10 games to miss the playoff, they were never a team playing this kind of so called system.

And that's with the same gm and same coach and same management.

Maybe someday more people will realize this isn't really some kind of Moreys system, but just a system catered for Harden.

Changing coach can improve very little of it.
