Interesting piece, including discussion of how extremely 3 point happy the Rockets and its affiliate the Vipers have become.

Interesting quote from Jeff Van Gundy on the reliance on 3s hurting "diversity of play." If the Moreys of the world are right, will we one day end up with a bunch of teams that play the the Rockets (and Stan Van Gundy's Orlando teams), with 4 3 point shooters firing away around a strong rebounder? We are not there yet. But do we really want to get there? Also, funny idea on the "2.5 pointer."

NBA would change it's rules if that happened. Would be a very boring sport.

Disagree. It's the same as when the spread offense came to the NFL. Did that make it boring?

The game will be faster paced and the vast majority of shots will be the two most entertaining in basketball: dunks and 3s.

3 pointers would add volatility to the game which might be exciting, but yeah I think the league would see the loss of diversity in offensive sets as a bad thing and would kill it. They didn't like our Dream-era 3-point teams; they didn't like our Francis-era isoball; they didn't like Kevin Martin playing for foul shots. The league making rules to stop Rockets' strategems isn't new.

It's call the meta-game. If the league all follows the meta-game it wouldn't be long for teams to find the anti-meta-game.

Spread offense made the game more exciting. This basically removes 1/3 of the court.

If they made half-court shots 4 pointers, would teams have guys lined up there?

The Rockets will be attempting 35 plus 3 pointers a game next season, in my opinion.

Half court? No. I suspect the drop in accuracy would offset the extra point.

Now, if you had a 4 point line at let's say 26 or 27 feet... then you'd have something interesting.

    :p

Then the Currys, Hardens, and Durants of the world would rejoice! Shame TMac or Arenas retired, they always shot 27 footers lol.

We should have a BASEketball league lolol. Save Baseball as well.

Probably not, given the chances of making a half-court shot are incredibly low. I don't think there are any hard numbers, but it's gotta be less than 20%.

    20% x 4 points = 0.80 points
