I know you guys are all Rocket fans and I must admit you have a really entertaining board. However....

If Lamar Odom was in the draft this year he would be the #1 pick period. This reminds me of the 3 years ago when I was telling Boston fans they should trade thier 2000 Lottery pick for Jermaine O'Neal. They sais exactly what you guys were saying, he hasn't done squat, not worth a lottery pick, blah, blah. There are only probably FIVE centers better than Kandi( Shaq, Duncan, Mourning, Mutombo, O'Neal). My guess is Kandi will surpass Mutombo this season.

You guys are really hyped about getting a 7'5" small forward. Yes that is what he is folks. Just like Dirk is a 7'0 small forward. Now if that is the type of player you are looking for then fine but remember as 'dominant' as Ming is in China Zhi Zhi is the second best player in China. Think about that! Now I wish like hell my Grizzlies would have had the chance to selct #1 and add the no brainer pick of Jay Williams to our team but alas tis not to be...

...but if the Clippers come offering Odom, Kandi, #8 and #12 for the #1, #15 and filler you have to take that deal.

No offense but we want Caron Butler or Jay Williams but might have to 'settle' for Drew Gooden. Jerry West has stated that Ming is not the best talent in this draft. Good enough for me.

I hear Pau really wants to play for the Boston Celtics.

Oh, and did I ever tell you that your team could be:

    Swift
    Vince Carter
    Pau Gasol
    Battier
    Steve Francis

if you all had Jerry West all this time.

This is true! This does not however change the fact that Kandi sucks. It just proves how bad the level of competition is at the 5 rite now. Which is exactly why you dont pass on a potential dominant center. How can you pass up a potential franchise player at the weekest position in the NBA?

Potential franchise player and also a potential dud. Most likely Ming will be the latter.

MemphisX is right: Caron and Jay Williams are the best players in the draft and if we pass up a trade that would deliver us the 4th/5th best center in the league PLUS Odom, everyone should be shot.

You know your rite Kandi is just what we need, an over paid under achieving center. Oh wait we already have one of those. What has Kandi proved? Lets see in a contract year he produced 4.5 points and 1.9 more rebounds than Cato while playing 6.5 minutes more per game. Yep gotta have him! Let's take a look at what Odom did last year. Oh yeh he didn't do much because he was either injured or suspended for drugs most of the year.

Hmmmmm....I'm sorry what was your point again? Oh yeh who wants a center with SF skills when you could have Kandi and Odom.

    writhe,

First, Olowakandi is a very mediocre player. He was considered the ULTIMATE Bust until this season, when he actually put up average numbers. My guess is you've never even seen him play. You want the definition of mediocrity? Try a 7 footer who shoots 42% FG. That's pretty damn hard to do when your range is 5 feet. Is it a coincedence that he finally upgrades from sorry to average during a contract year. What are you going to do with that? Give him the max $$ ? That'll put the Rockets in the hole for the next umpteenth years. Can you say NY Knicks...

If you want another overpaid center who hasn't proven anything, making a ton of $$$, youre the one who should be shot.

As far as Lamar Odom, he is the dumbest player in the NBA since Shawn Kemp. If you think he's franchise material, you're dumber than I thought (and that's a big statement). Lamar Odom is potentially very good player with a lot of questions. The drug problem, potential injuries, and doubts about his maturity (all of which existed when he was at Rhode Island). People thought Odom proved all his critics wrong in his rookie year. Has he really progressed as a player and a person? The question marks that were there are STILL there after 3 years of professional basketball.

Anyone who thinks Kandi and Odom are slam dunks that would transfer a mediocre team to a great is the one who should be shot. Social Darwinism at its best.

uhh...Jermaine O'neal never got any playing time to display his skills with Portland because of Rasheed Wallace. The Blazers didn't have much choice but to trade him. Kandi, on the other, has had four full seasons of maximum playing time to prove what he can do, and he still sucks. Its not really the same thing. And you can say he is the sixth best center in the league all you want, but it doesn't take away the fact that he's still a center who shoots 43% from the field (worst in the league for a starting center), can't shoot free throws, can't get double digit rebounds, and can't block shots. Hell, Eddie Griffin blocked more shots per game this season than Olowokandi has any season in his entire career, AND EDDIE BARELY EVEN PLAYED! Kandi is a loser and a bumb. But, if you would want your Memphis Grizzles to pay Olowokandi 9 million for that type of production, then please, be my guest. But I doubt Jerry West would be that stupid.

As far as your comment about Lamar Odom being #1 in this year's draft. HA!!!! that's all I have to say about that.

The rest of your post can pretty much be ignored. You really don't know too much about Ming, so please don't pretend that you do.

Look, I never said he was the next Wilt or Dream and I agree with you that he has underachieved thus far. Yet, how many other centers would you rank ahead of him in the league? Not many, probably.
Did I say that? I don't believe I did and please do not put words in my mouth.

At 5 - 7 million a season, Olowokandi is worth it.

You're on to something! Lets make a trade with POR for:

    Rasheed
    Boumtje-Boumtje

    -----

Boumtje-Boumtje hasn't got any playing time, so maybe we can land us a gem!

    pull the trigger!

    pullllll it.

Do you really think Kandi would sign for that amount? He seems to think he's a max player from some of the comment he made earlier this year.

On May 22, ESPN's David Aldridge writes: "The Clippers continue to send signs that they'll make a legit proposal to Michael Olowokandi. The question is whether the rumored offer of $8 million or $9 million per year (more with incentives) will be enough for the restricted free agent center. He may hold out for a max offer. The Clippers may blanch, as they maintain the Kandi Man has played, in essence, one half of one good season."

$5-7 million? Yeah right. The sad thing is someone just might pay $9 million and then 2 years later try to figure a way to dump his contract

I just hope it won't be us.

More humor. Kandi is in the top 5 centers ....

    hahahahahahaha

Kandi is one of the top 5 complete busts for the #1 pick of all time.

He ranked #14 in blocked shots this season - who was #13???

    Rocket rookie Eddie Griffin

He ranked #103 in field goal percentage (41%)- who was better??

Everyone!!! Grandma!!! Your Little Sister! take your pick.

    He's a 62% FT shooter - who's almost as bad??

    Lamar Odom 65%...

Yet who CAN shoot a free throw . . . you guessed it - Yao Ming 79%.

I don't think Jerry West thinks that Ming doesn't have as much talent as anyone in the league. I think he questions whether or not he'll be able to handle the grind at center. Ming is much riskier than Butler or Jay Will, but has as much talent as either of those guys.

Besides, West is overrated. He was part of Nick the Quick and Eddie Jones, but other than that who has he drafted? He signed Shaq because the Lakes have the big bucks and he got Kobe as a gift because Kobe basically said he only wanted to play for the Lakers. So, the Flakers have 2 good picks in the NBA Draft in the past 10 years and a gift via trade from a loser franchise in Charlotte. They haven't made any great trades (other than the gift of Kobe) and the only real signing they have made is signing the best player in the league. What a brilliant guy West is!

Jerry West said in 96 he didn't think it was right high school player were being drafted and he never considered ever drafting one. Then he trades Vlade to Charlotte for guess who. If you deal with him, you're dealing with the devil.
