Tie up at 74-74 in regulation but then Yugoslavia went crazy in OT to win. In other news, DAMN VLADE DIVAC SUCKS!!!! Congrats to Yugo though for taking the gold.
Argentina would have won if they had their best player emanual....too bad he was out for sprained ankle
He actually played, albeit hurt. In fact he was fouled on a last second fastbreak layup to end regulation, but didn't get the call from the refs. How 'bout that Vlade choke exhibition missing BOTH freethrows to end regulation!!! Once a choker ('91 Finals) - ALWAYS a choker.
So if Peja wouldn't have had a bad ankle for most of the WC Finals, the Kings would have won? IMHO, Argentina plays a very team oriented game and his only playing 12 minutes was a minimal impact. I doubt if he would have scored more than Oberto who had a career day with 28 points. Further, the Argentine's made 52% of their 2 point shots which was about what they were averaging for the tournament.
undeserving. that's how I would sum up yesterday's game. everyone knows, or should know, that it was Argentina's game. the last second non-call in regulation time was probably the worst decision by the refs in the entire world championships. in any case, it was a great game--what a final should be: a competition between the best. unfortunately for the Cinderella Argentinean team, it wasn't meant to be. i must, however, note the unbelievably BALISTIC crowd! were we in Yugoslavia or the US? were we witnessing a soccer or basketball game? if there's one uncontestable fact of the 'internationalization' of the NBA is that the fans are proving themselves to be more passionate than the sometimes overly passive fans one finds in the states. welcome to the future of NBA! i can't wait!!!
WCB is the World Cup of basketball. American fans and players, wake up! This is the pinnicle of basketball supremacy to the rest of the world. Basketball has not reached the magnitude of soccer yet. But with the vast improvement of world basketball and the shrinking dominance of American bball, it may become the second most popular sport in the world.
i was there. the crowd was in a frenzy. it was incredible. personally, the no-call at the end of the game may have been a foul, but most refs swallow their whistles the last couple seconds. anyway, u really cant complain about the refs...as much as they hurt argentina, they hurt yugo too with some horrible calls, especially foul calls. congrats argentina. you guys played well and are deserving every bit of that silver medal. however, yugo wins it fair and square, with a lil help from the amazing crowd. (BTW, see the blue haired kid with the painted face? thats me )
