I'm as impressed with Cat as the next guy... but will he be willing to share the rock next year with Griff and MoT? he takes more shots than 12 Tim Duncan, SAS 13 J. Stackhouse, DET 14 Karl Malone, UTH 15 Nck Van Exel, DAL 16 L. Sprewell, NYK 17 Kevin Garnett, MIN 18 S. Marbury, PHO 19 J Rose, CHI 20 M. Finley, DAL 21 Shawn Marion, PHO 22 R. Hamilton, WAS 23 G. Robinson, MIL 24 Steve Francis, HOU 25 Allan Houston, NYK 26 A. Jamison, GSW 27 Dirk Nowitzki, DAL 28 Ray Allen, MIL 29 S. Abdur-Rahim, ATL 30 R. Wallace, POR and only a handful less than Shaq Will Steve and Cuttino be willing to sacrifice shots for the team?
I partly agree on your assessment. But one question: Who else should get the shots this season if not Steve and Cat?
So how many shots should the best scorer on an offensively inept team take, especially when the second leading scorer missed a significant number of games?
I have an idea. How about Stevie and Cat help create shots for TEAMMATES. I know this thought hasn't entered Rudy, Steve or Cat's collective minds, but so-called good players find a way to help their teammates score. The only case I can think of is Francis throwing 5 alley oops a game to Cato.
Well outside of KT, EG, and walt, I'm not sure I wanna see anybody else take a shot. KT gets his shots, and for the most part eddie gets his (although could some not be 3's once in a while). Walt has been injured quite a bit and as was already mentioned steve was injured so Cat was our only creator. Plus Cat's style is not made for getting assists (well that and the fact he doesn't pass). Most of the time he is either getting a pass for a 3 or taking his set shot for the 2. Neither of those lends itself to anything but shooting or kicking it out top to reset. Until recently, he wasn't driving as much either and so this all leads to low assists and high shots and it's 4:45 am so I'm not to sure where I'm going with this now. Keep firing em up Cat.
Francis4prez-That's why moving without the ball is a must. When you factor in Cat's slashing ability with 4 other players moving to get open, that's a lot for the defense to be responsible for. I wouldn't mind any of our players getting open 10-15 ft baseline jumpers. If we can't rely on anyone who to hit open shots and layups, then we should not be an NBA team. Unfortunately we do not see many open shots with our 1 on 5 offense.
I am all for Cat putting up the ball. But when we start next season with a HEALTHY team we need to distribute the rock. kidrock8 - you are an Orioles fan? I thought I was the only one left.
you guys must have missed the first part of my post... but will he be willing to share the rock next year with Griff and MoT?
To answer your question, I do not see any reason to think that he would have a problem with sharing the ball. As it is a number of his shots come with him being wide open. If he continues to be open, he would be fine. He is also improved his shot selection and his maturity is up also. I think he has an appreciation of the big picture. To reduce the risk of that they can take a leaf from the mav's book. Find a way to increase the total number of shots. That would mean more fast breaks and less dribbling like the mavs. In addition we would want to play real pressure defense to help increase the number of possessions.
FGA are overrated. They don't take into account the amount of times a player uses a possession to take a shot. For example, if Stackhouse penetrates, gets fouled and misses the attempt, but scores 2 points from the line, it's not a FGA. But if Mobley goes straight to the hole, and makes it, it's a FGA. Mobley's free throws are down, in part because his ankle was hurting earlier, and in part because his jumpshot is really consistent now.
