Has anyone ever used this site? They offer all CD's for $5.99 (shipping and handling included). If you order a box set, you pay $5.99 per CD. The only catch is you have to order at least 1 CD a month. If you don't, they will still charge you $5.99. You can cancel (and renew) whenever you want though. I just ordered the Marvin Gaye collection (The Master, over 90 tracks) for $24 (S&H included). It usually goes for around $60. However, when I received the CD's, they were shipped from BMG Music Service?
I started a thread on this probably a couple of years ago and got no replies. I think it's run by BMG - that was my conclusion when I came across it. There were a couple of things that gave it away; can't recall what they were at the moment. Oh, and expect an obligatory "you still buy CDs!?" response, if you get another response.
I've been a member for over a year. It's a BMG company. The selection is pretty weak, but if they have something you want it's worth it. I've been using it to fill out my collection on some CD's that I've wanted for a while. It's GREAT for box sets though. Zep's box set was only $60 and the Police box set was less than $25.
Thanks for the tip!!!!! This is the way CD's should be priced - we should reward companies like this (and emusic.com). If values were this good everywhere, we'd see less piracy and resale, and the music industry execs might be less inclined to be such *****s to the consumer. I buy used CD's mainly because I know the record companies gouge us, but have the suspicion that those some of those used CD sellers I buy from are illegally storing the music and then reselling the CD. At $5.99, I would gladly buy new to compensate the artist.
Jeff, Do sites like this the artists their just due (as far as payment goes), or are you still cheating the artists by using these sites?
Artists get their royalties -- they have lower prices by making cheaper versions of covers etc.... and econimies is bulk storage and shipping. I used to work for a company that was owned by the same parent company (Bertelsmann) as BMG and we did their shipping for them. We used to be able to buy "returns" or damaged CD's for $2.50. That was cool.
In the past, BMG has also marked up shipping, so that they make just as much profit off the shipping charge as they do off the CD.
This looks really appealing, I have a question though. Since this is through BMG, which I have gotten those things in the mail, never really tried them, mainly because I feel it might be a hassell to get the subscription cancelled. How difficult is it to cancel subscriptions through BMG? I always pictured it as like an internet service type deal. You call them to cancel and they just keep trying to avoid it and offer you other deals and the like.
