    Zack De la Rocha: vocals
    Tom Morello: Guitar
    Tim Commerford: Bass
    Brad Wilk: Drums

Rage Against the Machine. The best 4 man band ever. However, being a guitar player myself I prefer 4 man bands with 2 guitarists like, you know, those guys....Metallica.

Aside from the Beatles, I'd go with the following:

Vocals: Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, or Van Morrison.
    Guitar: Vernon Reed.
    Drums: Manu Cache.
Bass: Yeah, probably Flea...Alan King was wild for a bass/vocalist, which is no easy gig...many of the best bass players are in studio bands, especially back in the 60's R&B/70's funk era...

Vocals: Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) - Truly no one else like him
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix Experience) - Did things with the guitar that had never been done before
Guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) - Came up with more good beats than any other in my opinion
Drums:John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) or the drummer from Green Day - Both guys are just amazing

I can't believe someone would include John Deacon in their list, especially with JBJ and EVH but I am a Queen fanatic. I am not even gay and I just find find them to be the most technically great band ever, their studio work was what mozart was to the harpsichord. Anyway my honest fab four would be:

    Freddie Mercury - Vocals, Piano
    Robert Smith - Guitar, Vocals
    Paul McCartney - Bass, Vocals
    John Lennon - Guitar, Vocals

    **** it we'll find a drum machine.

Man, I could write a novel on this because of all the different styles of music we're looking at.

This will probably change when I sober up, but here goes...

    Rock:
Singer/songwriter-Billy Corgan(more for songwriting than vocal ability)
    Guitar-Randy Rhodes
    Bass-Getty Lee
    Drums-Jimmy Chamberlain

    Pop:
    Singer-Sting (circa 1977-1983, NOT AFTER)
    Guitar-Andy Summers
    Bass-Mark King (Level 42)
    Drums-Carter Beauford

    Fusion:
    Keys-Chick Corea
    Bass-Jaco Pastorius (RIP)
    Guitar-Frank Gambale
    Drums-Dave Weckl (ie. God)

I know the Beatles are king, but my ultimate 4-man band is...

Sort of like "Wilt's the best but my favorite player is Olajuwon."

The Hong Kong best band "Beyond" period.
Americans and most of the country in the Western country never heard of this band call Beyond, but, let me tell you what, more than 1 billion peoples growing up listen to this band, that's something no band and no one has ever accomplish, even in a foreign language you can't understand, by just listen to their guitar sound and the voice of the singer, you will believe why people who knows Chinese think the Beatle are not their favorite.
Again, there's so many words in the oxford dictionary, but it's not enough to describe Beyond.

    drummer2k....

that would be Geddy Lee.....great choice :)

    rock:

    bass--Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy)
    guitar--Rik Emmett (Triumph)
    guitar2--Tommy Skeoch (Tesla)
drums--Steve Smith (Journey and many other projects)
vox--Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees)

    heavy metal:

    bass--Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
    guitar--Randy Rhoads RIP (Ozzy)
    guitar2--Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
    drums--Carmine Appice
vox--Rob Halford (Judas Priest,Fight, Halford) or Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)

    progressive Metal:

    bass--Geddy Lee (Rush)
    guitar--John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
    guitar2--Frank Aresti (Fates Warning)
    drums--Neil Peart (Rush)
    vox--Geoff Tate (Queensryche)

I was trying to not have 2 members from the same band...but ended up with Rush's rythym section anyway....maybe I could substitute Steve "Doc" Wacholz from Savatage instead of Peart...but anyway...

    the beatles first of course

after that, hmm, i don't know how good these guys would sound together but they're who i like individually:

singer - layne staley - RIP, the man could sing.

guitarist - eddie van halen - tough choice over slash and jimmy page.

bass - paul mcartney - maybe my second favorite voice so i slotted him here. not exactly a slouch on bass anyways and just that little riff he does on "something" works for me.

drums - john bonham - that's it, end of list. by far my favorite.
