Well, the season is almost over and we have seen all of the current rockets play at one time or another , my question to you is what are your feelings about the following players: Moochie Carlos Rogers Grey Pig M. Drew Williams a.k.a. "the wizzard" Out of this bunch who do you think we will see next season ? Do you all think the Moocher has what it takes to be a quality back up Pt. guard in the NBA ? do you think Carlos R. impressed the coaching staff enough earlier on during the season to warrant keeping him ? Despite his hussle is Pig m. worth keeping ? how about Drew , are we going to use him as trading bait ? or will he be back again ? and despite his torrid scoring as of late will the wizzard be back next yr. or is he just making himself that much more tradable or that much more needed by the rox ? so what u guys/gals think ? ------------------ Please give us an excuse to party on Richmond street once again!
My take: Mooch: A keeper. He has proven at the least that he deserves a full season with the Rockets. Rogers: Still a project, despite being so close to 30. He is a high energy guy who will always be good to have around. He should still be fairly cheap for the next few seasons. Grey: Not ready to be a real contributer. He should go. Pig: I hate to see this guy go because he has worked so hard. This year he has been wonderful in limited time. Great hustle. I think it will depend on what moves the Rockets make in the offseason. Drew: It seems Rudy has given up on him. He would rather see Moochie develop. My guess is that he will be moved. If not, he will really have to prove himself. Williams: I have a feeling he will stay. I do not know why. Rudy has always seemed to want him to play as he does now. Rudy is not showcasing him - he is just playing better. He still does not play that many minutes. So I guess I have it 50/50. Three (at least) will still be here. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
I don't think any of these players should be guaranteed a spot on next year's roster. If you have to choose between Drew and Norris, I'd take Norris. Although I don't think 20 games as a Rocket this year is enough time to fully evaluate Norris. If an experienced point guard becomes available, I'd have no problems losing Norris and Drew. Francis needs a guy who's played the point and knows how to play the other guards in the league. I'd like to keep Pig for his rebounding, I like Wiz as a backup 3, and Rogers has nice size, movement and doesn't hurt you offensively with his 53% FGP. But to make a trade for a better talent work, I'd have no problems losing any of these guys. With all the personal stuff Rogers has been through, I would hate to see him moved for salary purposes alone and end up with no playing time. ------------------
Moochie & Drew: I don't think we'll keep both, given our backcourt depth. And given recent playing rotations, it seems Drew is the one to be traded. I like Drew but it is good for a number of reasons: (a) Norris will be an FA so we'd only be able to trade him in a sign-and-trade, and can you think of anything more ridiculous than a S&T with a CBA call-up? (b) Drew needs more minutes to be effective. He doesn't give a spark off the bench in the 10 minutes Francis will leave for him. (c) Drew has more trade value anyway. He can make a decent starter somewhere or even a backup if he can get more than spot minutes (maybe in a split rotation like NY's PGs). (d) It feels like a waste of talent to have Drew on the pine. If you don't play Norris, where's the harm? At least he got out of the CBA. Rogers: I think Rudy will definitely keep him. Rogers seems to have the sort of attitude that scores big points with Rudy T. I see a bit of Elie's work ethic in him. Grey: It depends on whether or not the Rockets need his slot. If they don't, I'll bet they'll ask him to come back to occupy an IL position. I don't expect him on the active roster unless there is an injury though. Pig Miller: I expect him back. Given Olajuwon's recent tendency toward injury and Cato's dubious ability to play starter's minutes for whatever reason, I think Rudy will want another center for insurance. Wizard: How can we let him go now that he has found his range? He'll definitely be back, but I hope we can have him come off the bench. I'm hoping that we'll finally have a season with minimal roster turmoil. However, if History is our guide, there will probably be a blockbuster trade that will force half these guys out as well as deal several of the guys we thought were to be keepers. I think that $4.5 million exception and Drew will be the deciding factor in who else stays. If another team wants any of these guys in a trade, I'm sure they'll go. ------------------
bait for sucker fish ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
Moochie is nastier than 10 day old fish, mad skills, wicked cross-overs, and looks like he gives a crap about winning. Walt could be good as he is proving right now, I wish he would do that when it mattered. Los has been injured so long I forgot what his game is like. Grey, Pig: Uh, ya, um, err, bye bye now. Drew" Please, Please, Please, trade his sorry butt with a quickness for a viable backup for the draft pick we get for a fwd slot. ------------------ The truth is out there.
Hakeem - Pray he doesn't get injured next season. Ladies and Gentlemen, there will never be another Dream in Houston, and when he's gone.... he's gone. Cato - Someone needs to put a stick of dynamite up his arse and light it. The guy basically won the lottery here, and hasn't earned it. If he can improve and show some friggin' DESIRE, then keep him. But, if not get him outta here. Pig - Cheap, hustles, puts up good numbers in his limited playing time. Keep him, but only at a low price. Gray - Get rid of this guy. He is the worst player the Rockets have had on a roster in a long time. K. Thomas - I liked Othella. I don't like KT. Neither played any defense, it seemed like Othella at least tried. Thomas' 41% field goal shooting is very irritating. We should keep him as long as he's cheap, or get rid of him if someone else wants him. C. Rogers - I really like 'Los. He puts his heart into the game. He may not be the most talented player in the world, or the youngest, but he seems to be a good "clubhouse" type guy. Unless, he has to go in another deal, keep him. Bullard - He's cheap. He's a Rocket. But, I'm getting tired of his one-dimesional limited play. If he's shooting well from behind the arc everybody loves him, if not he can't add anything to the team. If he fits into the roster without messing up our salary cap space keep him, if he does, lose him. Massenburg - ummmm, what a waste. I thought with Hakeem, Barkley, and TMass as our veteran back up, we'd be solid in the post... Who'd a thunk it? Williams - Okay he's played very well the last two and a half weeks, but let's not all forget the other 45 - 50 games in which he was terrible. I'd actually say "keep him" if his contract wasn't so huge. I like his hustle, and his outside threat, but it's a matter of $$. Anderson - Very nice all-around game. I really like him, but I tend to lean towards players who can play some defense. Keep him, but he's gonna be expensive. Drew - I don't like him. I don't know why. I didn't like Maloney either. It's not the 'white' thing, because I liked Scotty Brooks. I think it's more that I like Moochie more. That and the fact that for a "pure shooter" his career FG% is .380, now that is terrible. Get rid of him and hope we can find someone who really want him. Norris - Man, what a find. Is he the next "Mario Elie"? Maybe not, but I think he's solved the Rockets backup PG problem. He's not an all-star, but he is a good ball handler, and a good passer, and can score, and even play a little D here and there. Mobley - I really like the guy. He's almost the reincarnation of Maxwell, just not the defender... yet. He's got confidence, quickness, hops, athleticism, and energy. The only way I'd want to see him gone is if the Rockets could fill one of their other needs in a big way. Francis - Duh... I just hope Francis works hard in the offseason to improve his ball handling (turnover problem) and his shooting (.436 isn't superstar). But, isn't it nice to have a good PG for a change? ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
