Ok. Let’s take a step backwards to last yr. around this time, we all heard the hype about Francis, we all heard the great potential he brought to the table but very few of us had actually seen him play so therefore could only judge him by what we read....

My question to you is: What were your 1st thoughts about Francis before the season started? Did you think he was going to be all hype? Did you expect him to be the player he is? Are you guys still surprised and have had to eat your own words?

Me personally I read quite a bit about him and saw that the potential was there but my question was, will he be an Iverson type player? Would he be a ball hog? Now I know better but at the time I was just expecting him to be good but nothing to what he proved to be. I did not think he would win the ROY that is for sure! .... Gosh have I been nicely surprised!

Before the season started, i honestly knew he was going to be an immediate impact player...i watched a handful of his college games and i could just see that he had star potential...i still remember being in shock when Franchise's name wasn't called first...oh well, we got him and that's all that matters... I actually saw him play quite a bit in college. Maryland was on tv a lot and he was, in my opinion, the best player on the court no matter who they played. He had that special something. He also had/has unbelievable athleticism. He was raw, but the talent was there. Rudy and the coaching staff are doing a great job of bringing him along. He is already one of the best players in the league. The sky is the limit for this kid. And I can honestly say, I saw the potential when he was at Maryland.

    Drag-On 88,
If Francis was picked first he most-likely wouldn't be on the Rockets.

    Drag-on 88,

I agree with FrancisFan. What are you thinking? Do you not want Francis to be a Rocket! He would've never become a Rocket if he got picked number one. Man, sheesh.

I've knew he was gonna be good because I saw him in Sports Illustrated in their NCAA Season Preview and predictions. [IMG]

Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!

Stevie to me was always the total package.
I just wish this would've happened in 1997
when Matt was getting abused by Stockton and other point gaurds.
Stevie is awsome and just wait what he'll do this year, I just hope everbody else( Cato,Mo Taylor, Shandon and Kenny)step up this year.

I was expecting him to be good.. but not that good. Come on. the guy was never a rookie in any aspects apart from the turnovers. I knew he was good because I managed to catch a few games on TV and I was damn excited when I heard he was traded to Houston.
Mr Francis, I bow down to thee on both knees

I remember his first college game he played against Princeton. Francis stole the ball from one of their guards and took it the other way and went behind his back and put down a nasty dunk. The crowd in Princeton
had never seen anything like that before. They were amazed. When I saw that play I knew Francis had greatness written all over him.

I had some serious doubts--not necessarily about the guy's ability to score--but about the fact that Rudy was going to put him at point guard, cause Stokes played the point for him at Maryland. And when it first went down, I told myself this wasn't a good trade unless this guy can play the point, because I'm not too fond of 6'2" 2 guards.

I'm really glad how wrong my thinking turned out to be

I first saw him a year and a half ago. I can't remember who they were playing because I was so amazed at how skilled he was. I never thought we'd have a chance to get him and was floored when I found out we got him. I never really followed the college game, but knew I wanted him on the Rockets. My wish came true!

To be honest, I never had even heard of him because I didn't follow college basketball.

i was kinda sad... both michael and othella had grown on me. also i was upset about what he had doen on draft day. but now i believe that it was because he wanted to play some point guard... and now hes my favorite player.

I just knew Francis would come straight out blazing, but I did think it would be with the bulls.I had no idea what Vancover was thinking! Before the trade I thought the rookie of the year was going to be between Steve and Baron Davis. On the other hand I was very surprised by his shooting skills, specially behind the arc,I was under the impression his shot was not that good.Just think the best is yet to come,we havent even come close to seeing Steve at his best.It may or may not be this season but by the next season or two I think Francis will be mentioned with the elite!

Like Jeff, I never saw him play. The only thing I knew was that he acted like a whiny little punk by refusing to play for the team that drafted him, much like Pippen didn't want to play for the Rockets. That doesn't bother me though, because I know he's just a basketball player, and I'm glad he's a Rocket, much like I'm sure Blazer fans are glad Pippen's a Blazer.
