Saw threads on the '70s and '90s and we already have the existing '00s but didn't see anything on the '80s or the '60s. Here is my 10 with 10 honorable mentions - I only list 1 album per artist. Top 10: Disintegration - The Cure War - U2 Murmur - REM Rain Dogs - Tom Waits The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths Avalon - Roxy Music Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses Spirit of Eden - Talk Talk Scary Monsters - David Bowie Honorable Mentions: Tin Drum - Japan Isn't Anything - My Bloody Valentine Computer World - Kraftwerk Freedom - Neil Young Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth Skylarking - XTC Irish Heartbeat - Van Morrison Psychocandy - The Jesus and Mary Chain Treasure - The Cocteau Twins Hyaena - Siouxsie and the Banshees
I still have a lot of catching up to do for the 80s...this is the best I could come up with 11.) Galaxie 500 - On Fire 10.) XTC - Skylarking 9.) Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands 8.) Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique 7.) U2 - Joshua Tree 6.) Replacements - Tim 5.) Pixies - Doolittle 4.) REM - Murmur 3.) De la Soul - 3 Feet High & Rising 2.) Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation 1.) Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
Ooh, can't believe I forgot the XTC and Sonic Youth albums - went back and edited my original post (took Prince and Dylan out).
Holy crap, dude. This is a near-impossible question to answer (for me). I have a much easier time narrowing down the 70s and 90s. DEVO - Freedom of Choice Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician Suburban Lawns - Suburban Lawns Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 - Wormed by Leonard A Flock of Seagulls - A Flock of Seagulls Oingo Boingo - Good for your Soul Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables Minor Threat - Minor Threat Big Boys - Lullabies Help the Brain Grow Scratch Acid - Just Keep Eating Nitzer Ebb - Belief Edit: Once again, mine goes to eleven... (Again, this is truly impossible for me. The 80s were the decade of my Coming of Age experiences. Limiting it to 10 -- or even 11 -- is ridiculous exercise. I would like to be able to edit this list daily. This is the "off the top of my head" version.)
I'm pretty sure my opinion is valid. I'm from Texas, not Chicago. My list =/= your list. Sorry. I also mentioned several times that limiting it to 10 (or 11) was impossible. Big Black would make my "20 Best" or maybe even my "15 Best" list...off the top of my head. Maybe they wouldn't... EDIT: I didn't even get to Rap! Oh, man...
Michael Jackson - Thriller Journey - Escape Van Halen - 1984 Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet U2 - Joshua Tree Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction Def Leppard - Hysteria Beastie Boys - Check Your Head Depeche Mode - Music for the Masses Genesis - Invisible Touch
I would put Paul's Boutique ahead of every Beastie Boys album (regardless of "decade"). Just my opinion, though... Carry on.
No particular order Head on The Door - The Cure Strangeaways Here We Come - The Smiths Life's Rich Pageant - REM Josua Tree - U2 Happy - PIL Music For the Masses - Depeche Mode Substance - Joy Division Substance - New Order Thunder & Consolation - New Model Army Echo & The Bunnymen - Echo & The Bunnymen
I hate to be so nit-picky, but putting "best of" releases like Joy Division's Substance opens a Pandora's Box for all the Old Fogies to list all their 60s and 70s re-releases or compilations in this (or any other) decade. Jus' sayin'
This is more what I was into in the 80s (mainly, mid 80s) best of. I was a teenage rocker who spent most of the 80s at rock concerts. I practically lived at "The Summit" in Houston, Texas. Today, I've moved on from most of this nonsense (except the Rush and U2) . No particular order: Rush - Moving Pictures Rush - Permanent Waves Metallica - Ride the Lightning Metallica - Master of Puppets U2 - Joshua Tree Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind Iron Maiden - Powerslave
My personal favorites 10. Stone Roses-S/T 9. Husker Du-Zen Arcade 8. Drivin N Cryin-Scarred But Smarter 7. Willie Nelson-Pancho and Lefty 6. The Jesus and Mary Chain-Psychocandy 5. Dinosaur, Jr.-You're Living All Over Me 4. Jane's Addiction-Nothing's Shocking 3. Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation 2. Pixies-Surfer Rosa 1. Pixies-Doolittle
it was only a matter of time next its 50's and 40's! u2 - joshua tree u2 - unforgettable fire the cure - kiss me, kiss me, kiss me the cure - disintegration pixies - doolittle new order - technique xtc - english settlement rem - life's rich pagent prince - sign o the times prince - purple rain xtc - sylarking rem - murmur new order - power, corruption and lies sonic youth - daydream nation pixies - surfer rosa minor threat - out of step minutemen - WHAT MAKES A MAN START FIRES? jesus & mary chain - darklands morrissey - viva hate cocteau twins - head over heels camper van bethoven - our beloved revolutionary sweetheart janes addiction - nothings shocking xtc - the black sea ...(forcing myself to stop)
Did you go to the Astroworld concert per this tour? That was a hoot! The singer was wearing a pink ballerina looking dress. I thought it was weird..so it stuck with me. updawg was there. I think kingcheetah was, too. they laughed at me as i sat in gum.
no - thats was in 89, right? i was in 8th grade at the time and not allowed to go. i also missed rem on the green tour for the same reason. i did see morrisey at southern star ampitheatre as well as dee-lite and the happy mondays - both of those shows were 90 or 91. me and my friends slam danced to every day is like sunday - totally hardcore...thats how we rolled.
