will he provide what the rockets need? and what does jon berry bring to the rockets?

i think jon played a pretty decent game tonight shooting 50% from the floor scoring 7 pts and getting 3 assist and 1 rebound. he pushed the ball up the court well which is what the rockets need. also he made a few good passes. he is an an excellent passer and made some tonight that gave the other players easy baskets. i think he is a good edition and will improve his numbers once he gets comfortable. he will provide energy and the trade will definetly benefit the rockets. good edition by the organization.
although we need to make a few more moves to bring in better rebounding and blocking because juwan and mo arent doing it in that department. they're to much alike, they dont rebound and aren't shot blockers.

    very impressed.

did anyone notice his one handed pass to a wide open JJ? He caught the pass from someone else and, in the same motion, one handed it over to JJ for a wide open shot.

It was a thing of beauty.

    Too early to tell.

He sure llooked good tonight though.

I didn't see Jon push the ball at all....in fact, I was worried a bit when he was playing point, he doesn't look like he is capable of pushing the ball. It's a good thing they didn't press...

In a half court offense, he will hopefully be able to do what he did tonight.

Jon Barry should play a whole lot. If Barry's knees can stand it, this guy should play. He needs to play with TMac and Yao as much as possible.

Very impressive. Make room for him - backup 1 or 3. Bench JJ when he's stupid.

Barry played well, but at his age consistency will be an issue. He was playing on adrenaline tonight, so it isn't fair to expect a similar performance every night. We should have a much better feel for him at the end of the week, after back-to-back road games, and the rigors of three games in four days.

What I like about his performance was not the shpts he made but the decisios he made. He took good shots but more imporatntly he dissed out good passes for easy baskets and was a vocal leader during the game. The shots will not always fall but the passes and the desire shown on the court is what I feel will help this team night in night out. He is also a good player for our bench so that we can continually score the ball offensively when Yao or Mc Grady is on the bench. He also tried to push the ball but sometimes our power fowards have to get predictable rebounds so our players can run and make good outlet passes.

Wow, if he can only socre 7pts with 3 dishes when plays on adrenaline, then I want Lue back. :D

Seriously, he was ok. He is not going to be the savior of the team. Tmac and Yao needs to get it going, and I wish these two could connect more.

I really like Jon Barry. He is almost exactly what Rockets need desperately at guard position: shooting, smart decision-making, and getting offese into a rythms. More importantly, these things don't die when age. So he should be able to contribute nicely.

Couple of plays I really like: the no-look pass to Mutombo; the quick pass back to Yao when Yao reposted; the touch-pass to JJ for a 3 pointer; the short dribble away from defender and pull up a mid-ranger jumper. The Rockets offense looked really good when Barry was playing the point.

On the other side, that just shows how thin Rockets roster is when 35-year old Jon Barry can make the team so much better with his first game...

I was at the game, and i noticed that he was very aggressive on the defensive end. he played well on offense, but i was more impressed with his defense

Hopefully he can continue to give us the spark off the bench that we need. Played well tonight on both ends of the court.

For someone that only arrived 12 hours before tip off I'll say he fit in so nicely. He will do great things for this team with his cerebral play and innovative ability. He is not the messiah but he will contribute more than what we got from Lue and he will also be a key spark plug off the bench.

    Welcome to Houston Jon.

He moves the ball to the open man very quickly, players like him add TONS to chemistry.

A huge pickup, sometimes one role player can make all the difference, let's hope this is one of those times.

I'm waiting for Jon to start looking over at JVG for approval after every turnover or miss.

LOL. I've got my fingers crossed it don't happen. But I doubt we will see him shoot a lot of pull up 3's off the break like he did that one shot tonight after Van Gundy gets done coaching him. If you noticed Sura's game now, Sura now pulls up at the 3 line and dribbles, waiting for the rest of the team to come down and set up. So much for the ole Sura driving the ball all the way into the paint. He can only do that now after the defense is set up and they have the opportunity to steal the ball from him. Oh well, I'm sure Sura is now playing the "right" way.

    Dak pretty much nailed it...

HE will provide alot to the team that may not show in the stat sheet...but he makes up for it with his smarts and his teamplay...

His defense looks pretty good so far, I was a little worried about his shooting...but then I remembered that he is a Barry....all Barrys know how to shoot...they may go thru periods when their shots arent falling at their normal rate...but when they need to, they can sink their shots.

A definite plus is also his passing...He made some real nice passes eventho he doesnt knwo their sets or anything...what he did tonight was from pure smarts...he saw the court and knew where to get the ball..

When analyzaing a players effectiveness...you have to look depper than what the statsheet shows...you have to see the game...you have to watch for the details of the game and quit watching for the flashy offensive plays....watch the moves and passes that lead to the shot also...

quick judgements based on preconceived notions isnt fair tot he player...nor does it make you look any smarter.(speaking in general, not aimed at any one person)

Definitely seems like he showed some energy and heart that haven't been common for our team thus far. Seems like he enjoyed showing what he can do. I know I enjoyed it. Reminded me of the heart of Cuttino when he used to come off the bench. Very fun to watch. Something to prove! I liked him alot. On a bench of stiffs he inspired some energy! Hopefully JVG won't put him in his place. This isn't college. Let's ball.
