I have been in Tokyo for a year now, I am currently working as a Business Manager of a Financial Firm here. What are your views of Japan, Japan's Politics, Japan's Economy?

how is it being an outsider working for a japanese firm? i've heard that there is a very clear ceiling for outsiders there.

I know this doesn't have all that much to do with things in a practical manner, but I say that it would be ok for the princess to legitimately be the next emperor(ess).

There is a ceiling for "gaijin" or outsiders here, but its not any different from other countries IMO. People here have different attitude about work... Its their life. The working hours are long, and it can lead to a non-existing social life. Tokyo is a great town... to work in. Thats about it.

I dont see any problems with her being the next emperess. Its 2005, we have to change with the times.

There's a ceiling for foreign born Japanese too. I had a friend who's father couldn't get promoted to VP because he was American born. Though he was fluent in both languages and essential for the American branch, he couldn't get promoted any further because of where he was born.

Think of the Korean and other nationals working there...
