Everyone has their own opinion on who the Rockets will or should pick in the upcoming draft. Some have their own mock draft and others are just guessing. My challenge to all of you is to go on record and submit your picks on who you think the Rockets will actually select in the draft. I will give you three different scenarios to fill:

    1. Rockets have only 2 first round picks (#13 & #22)and select on both for the team.

    2. Rockets have and pick on all three picks(#13,#18 $ #22).

    3. Rockets trade all their picks for one and move up (you guess which slot they move up to and who they select).

I will keep a record on every entry and will post the winner or whom ever came the closest.

    here is my entry:

    1. #13-Richard Jefferson
    #22-Ken Johnson

    2. #13-Richard Jeffersaon
    #18-Pau Gasol
    #22-Ken Jhonson

    3. Trade-up to #4(Memphis) select Sagana Diop

    Bring on the Possibilities!

    Pick 1 Michael Bradley
    Pick 2 Ousmane Cisse

    Scenario 2
    Pick 1 Michael Bradley
    Pick 2 Garald Wallace
    Pick 3 Ousmane Cisse

    Scenario 3 (My favorite [IMG])

    1st scenario-#13 R.Jefferson/#22 B.Haywood

    2nd scenario-#13 R.Jefferson/#18 T.Murphy/#22 B.haywood

    3rd scenario-Trade up to between 4-8 to get S.Battier

I dont know when Murphy is projected to be picked so I didnt know who to put.

I like G.Wallace and J.Forte but dont think they are possibilities for the Rockets even though they can fill some needs.

I still wouldnt count out Terrance Morris with are late 1st rounder or maybe in the 2nd round,I think he could stil be a special player.

What if a miracle happens and we get a top 3 pick in the lottery?

I would love to get a big guy like Haywood or Woods and a swingman like Jefferson or Battier, wouldnt that be great!!!

Draft Murphy? Are you serious? Remember Collier did the same thing in college.

Remember Collier did the same thing in college.

And just what has Collier done not to warrant a pick in the 18 range, where he was suggesting we take Murphy? When Collier was given consistent backup center minutes (10-18), he consistently got 6-10 pts and 3 reb per game. Name me one center who sucks (which is apparently that you think of Collier) and showed work ethic (to eliminate the Kelvin Cato reference [IMG]) in the NBA who contributed those numbers in the first games of the first month of his career. Or even more to the point, name me one other realistic draftable player for the Rockets last year who served their needs (big man) AND showed more promise in numbers and actual game play (instead of flashy dunks, which apparently is one of the criteria you use in judging players) when he was healthy. These were in the first games in the first month of his career, so you know he has a ton of room to grow. Until you can provide some game evidence and analysis as to why you say this about Collier (it seems you can't criticize him except through ridiculous one-liners) your posts will remain like the one above: junk.

    The Cat,
Your defense of Collier is quite commendable. It is amazing how you have come to his defense, in every anti-Collier post I have read, for the past year. I honestly can't remember an anti-Collier post, and there have been many, where you weren't defending him with everything you had. You must be related to him. Is it true? Is he your brother?

Haha-- thanks. No, we're not related. [IMG] I've always liked his game, but one of the things that really irks me about people is baseless criticism and not giving people a chance. For a young kid like him to come in, display a strong work ethic, and contribute good minutes while on the floor in his first month of his career is something he should be commended on. He showed a lot of promise when he was healthy and getting minutes, and you guys are just seeing the tip of the iceberg. I've seen this guy for years (actually met him once in the Atlanta airport), and Rocket fans should give him a chance-- he's a very fundamentally sound player with a lot of skills that should fit well with this team, esp. when you compare him to other possibilities (realistic) in last year's draft. I'm not trying to say this guy is going to be a star-- all I'm saying is that it's way too early to call him a bust or say that he sucks, and evidence from when he was healthy and getting minutes directly contradicts that. Furthermore, it's obvious with some posters on that board that they have a dislike for him because he doesn't have the "major hops" or athletism of some of the NBA's flashy players, and that really irritates me. I know everyone has a right to their opinion-- but I will definitely respond when it's pure garbage, which is what the majority of the anti-Collier posts are. I know some people can make arguments against his game, and he does have some flaws. But if you read this BBS, the majority of posts about Collier are ones like the one where in response to the thread "What's the Word on Jason Collier" someone says "The Word is he sucks" with no analysis, facts, or anything to back it up. Very irritating.

I generally like them both but Jason Collier and Troy Murphy were NOT alike in college. Jason was a decent role player on a GTech team with a losing record. Troy Murphy was THE MAN on a very good Notre Dame team that went 20-10. Murphy averaged 21.8 ppg & 9.2 rpg. They are VERY different players.

I'll reserve my prediction until after I see how the balls bounce on Sunday!

    Trade the picks for Raef.

The Cat is actually Rudy T & he gets upset everytime someone questions his picks from last year. [IMG]

I actually agree with you "The Cat", it's obviously too early to know what his full potential will be in the NBA. I'm thinking that he's going to be a Raef LaFrentz type player with a little more size. Most rookies take about 3 years to start showing their game. A perfect example would be to look at the 98/99 class of Jamison/Nowitzki/Pierce/Patterson/Rashard/LaFrentz... so on & so forth. These players have all been expected to be really good players, but most of them didn't really come on until this year(3 YEARS after being drafted). The posters that keep dissing Collier & Langhi, obviously eat at McDonald's too much. In other words, they want it now, instead of waiting for a good home cooked meal.

That reminds me, I'm hungry. Guess it's McDonald's again. [IMG]

WOW scoring 6points and giving up 20 is really impressive. The Dude is garbage plain and simple. I don't like Troy's game but im sure he will be much better than that bum.

The only thing that's "garbage" is your posts, because you cannot provide any factual evidence to back up your point ever. Let's take a look at some of the games in which he got the backup center minutes, and let's compare his numbers to the backup centers he played against head to head and see if he "gave up 20."

    Nov. 7 Lakers--

    Collier-- 10 pts, 4 reb, 13 minutes
Greg Foster-- 0 pts, 0 re, 3 minutes

Now to be fair, he was guarding Shaq a large portion of the night. And what did Shaq get?

    Shaq-- 24 pts, 7 reb, 45 minutes

To help hold Shaq to those numbers in 45 minutes is phenomenal.

    Nov. 9 Grizzlies--

    Collier-- 8 pts, 4 reb, 20 min
Ike Austin-- 2 pts, 2 reb, 18 min

    Nov. 10 Blazers--

    Collier-- 12 pts, 4 reb, 21 min
Shawn Kemp-- 8 pts, 5 reb, 24 min

    Nov. 12 Lakers--

    Collier-- 10 pts, 3 reb, 16 min
    G. Foster-- 0 pts, 0 reb, 16 min

Now, to be fair, again he guarded Shaq for a large portion of his minutes in that game.

    Shaq-- 14 pts, 5 reb, 32 minutes

He teamed with Dream to hold Shaq to by far his worst game of the season. This is Shaquille O'Neal we're talking about here. Why couldn't he just rip apart Collier, if what you're saying is right?

    Nov. 18 Suns--

    Collier-- 6 pts, 2 reb, 14 min
    D. Santiago-- 4 pts, 2 reb, 16 min

    Nov. 22 Celtics--

    Collier-- 7 pts, 2 reb, 21 min
    Potapenko-- 9 pts, 8 reb, 17 min

These were the main games in which he was both healthy and getting the backup center minutes. Where's the 20 he gave up each game? I'm not seeing it dude... If you can't back up what you say with factual evidence and analysis instead of ridiculous false BS like what you posted above, please refrain from further posting on the matter.

Collier put up some solid numbers when he was healthy and a part of the offense. It was a shame he went down the first time because he never could get back into the groove he was starting to show before the injury. He's a solid backup C. Just because he doesn't jump through the roof or sprint around the court, doesn't mean he's garbage. He fits his role nicely.

    I believe in Collier!
Lets all do that since I feel that he deserves it. We should appreciate a player that works hard and actually show signs of a good future.
    What is so hard??

Ok besides Shaq you compared him to some of the worst centers in the league. This is pointless. My opinion won't change and I guess yours won't either.

    Back to the topic:

    1) R.Jefferson, B.Haywoode
    2) R.Jefferson, Johnson, B.Haywoode
    3) Trade #13, #18/22, fut #1 to Grizz for E.Griffen and draft Morris #22
    OR
If we have 3 picks, trade them all to Grizz and get S.Diop
    OR
Trade #13,22 to Atlanta, draft Battier

And 1 more not-so-likely to happen:
Trade all 1st round picks to the Clips...draft Yao Ming. (The Mavs don't have a lottery pick, so he might still be available) [IMG]

Ok besides Shaq you compared him to some of the worst centers in the league.

Actually, besides Shaq, most of the comparisons were to Shawn Kemp, Ike Austin, and Potapenko. I'm not saying any of them are great-- but you gotta admit one thing-- if we could get out of last year's draft a center of that quality (esp. compared to all other realistic players for the Rockets to pick, that means no Mike Miller) we should be considered lucky. And the point also was Collier either played those guys even or outplayed them in the first month of his first season in the league. He will get better. Give the guy a chance.
