So I've got a craving for some good tex mex tonight and I wanted to see what everyone else's favorite place to go was in the Houston area. If you answer something like Taco Cabana or Taco Bell you need to get out more. :)

I think my overall favorite these days is El Tiempo, located on Washington. The food is outstanding and the margaritas will absolutely floor you. After two of those you are set for the night. I guess my only complaint with El Tiempo is that some of their grilled dishes are fairly pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you've never been there, go now!

Lupe's does have good beef fajitas, i will agree with you there. Thats the only thing they have that is above average though in my opinion.

I used to go to a place called Fandogoes on Westheimer in the Westchase area. It used to be really popular and always packed back in the early/mid 1990's. There fajitas were the best, and so was their salsa Then they changed management, closed down, reopened, and closed down again. There was also one on the Katy Freeway, but it was never good (even back in the day). It seemed like it was owned and operated by Asians (the one on I-10), which I always felt was weird.

They never were the same after the first change of management though.

    Anyone else been there?

Yuk! If you are near Dos Mas, drive the extra five minutes to Estaban's in League City. A great Tex-Mex place.

El Tiempo is the best! I love the 3 pepper cheese steak from Lupe, but the fajitas at el tiempo rock, and the platinum margaritas will kick your ass!

Or even better, Los Ramirez on El Camino by Oriental Gourmet. (my fav)

The flameado there is an true experience.

The good thing about Dos Mas is the still existent smoking section and the $1.00 margaritas on Saturdays.

I live close to the El Tiempo on Washington and really don't like it much...oh well.

I'm not a big Tex-Mex eater in general. My favorite Mexican food is either Tila's on Shepherd or Hugo's on Westheimer.

Oh man, Fandangoes nostalgia kicking in...

My dad used to take us there all the time because they had this coupon in the newspaper all the time for like a discount on the fajitas. That place was the best. The fajitas with their homemade tortillas that were made out in the dining area. I remember the first time I walked in there after the change. It looked all cleaned up like it was going for some modern hip look or something instead of a standard checkered board floor and sombreros on the wall kind of thing you'd expect from a Tex Mex place. It was heartbreaking, that place closed down quick after that :( .

My Favorite was "Fajitas" on the Northside by Greenspoint Mall. They had great Fajitas and their celebration nachos were to die for. I used to drive from Sugar Land, but sadly a couple of years ago they changed their name and were totally different. I practically grew up there in the eighties. It was packed andc had to wait 45 mins for a table. I think it went out of business because of how much the neighborhood went down.
