I was raised Baptist, but I like to think for myself so I now classify myself a Spiritualist. I believe in a God and try to live my life by the Golden Rule...but I don't accept what the organized religions try to pump down our throats. /end rant
You should've added Agnosticism up there. And putting Buddha instead of Buddhism up there made it seem a little weird, among others. I'm either an agnostic partial to Christianity or an extremely liberal Protestant.
These are the words I've been trying to figure out myself when describing my spiritual standing for years. Thanx.
I'm an agnostic. I don't know whats 'up there,' but I do recognize a higher power. In essence, I try to live my life by the golden rule. I'm spiritual, but not religious at all. How 'bout "free-thinking spiritualist"? I like that one.
I would have to say other. I believe or like to think of myself of having a combination of different religious beliefs.
I'm for sure in the "other" category. I have strong feelings about and feel very close to about certain religions but I'm not a Buddhist or a Taoist. I feel a connection to Jesus, but I'm not close to being a Christian. I even find Sufism and Hinduism of interest as well as pagan and new age practices and beliefs. Did I mention Theosophy too? How about "seeker?" That seems close enough.
Relativist, at your service. I don't know if you live in Houston, but if you consider yourself more theologically liberal than any professed Christian you've met, you might be interested in checking out Covenant, a pretty left-wing (theologically, not politically) church downtown. Here's the church's website: http://www.covenanthouston.org. It's small, mostly white, upper-middle class, but the people are friendly. I hear they just got a new pastor as well, who seems exciting but is a little inexperienced.
I am Agnostically and Existentially Jewish. I think I just created a new religion. Slap me and call me L. Ron Hubbard!
