We got a tempurpedic mattress but had less quality sleep doing to feeling warm, and increased neck pain.

I am trying to figure out if we should switch back to an innerspring mattress or try the sleep number.

I love my Tempurpedic. I've heard other people complain about them being warm, but we've never noticed it. I've been curious about the sleep numbers. Not sure if they are really that great, or just a fad. Would be curious to hear from others.

A good innerspring with a pillow top or mattress cover is good by me, but I've never slept on the others. I have considered tempurpedic, but as someone who doesn't like being overly warm when I sleep I have decided it probably isn't for me. I have considered sleep number but it does seem -to me- kinda fad-ish, if not geriatric to a certain extent when you see them all propped up like hospital beds.

Problem with that stuff is you don't really know til you spend a week on em.

A tube waterbed with a foam topper was the winner when I shopped everything about six months ago.

Memory foam is too hard by itself and doesn't move during sex.

(But, I have slept on various waterbed types for 40 years)

I would recommend against sleep number, I want to trash their product but I know people who enjoyed them. It is essentially a very fancy air mattress. I tried the entire range of "settings" and still had back pain. I tried using mattress toppers but it wasn't enough. I ended up giving it away and going back to my old bed.

Can you still buy waterbeds? I remember there used to be stores like Big Sur and Superior Waterbeds back in the 80's and early 90's. I haven't seen one in a long time. My parents got me a full motion waterbed for my 14th birthday. That thing saw a lot of use during my high school career.

I had to get mine at a store on North 45 due to some rushed circumstances, they are best bought online though.

I had never had the baffled tube type before but it makes it really easy to set up and you can customize the firmness for each side. This one has a built in memory topper and was about a grand. Highly recommend!

I have a Tempurpedic. It's so comfortable. It ruined innersprings for me though. I haven't tried a sleep number yet. Tempurpedics are hard for me to maneuver in though when needed.

We bought the same bed. iComfort has Cool Action™ Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam and does not sleep hot.

We previously bought a Tempurpedic which did sleep hot. There were nights in this mattress where I woke up in the same position that I went to sleep. Best night of sleep ever.

I almost sleep as well on the iComfort versus the Tempurpedic.

We took the cheap route a couple years ago when buying a mattress and we regret it. It's a cheap "memory foam" although any likeness to an actual memory foam is now gone: it doesn't not contour to the shape of our bodies at all. It doesn't bother me too much, but my wife is having back problems. I bet we'll start mattress shopping by 2015.

Start now if you can afford it. Back problems are no joke.

We go latex mattresses FTW. Never looked back (so to speak).

They can be kinda warm though, so maybe not as good in hot climate.

We just got a Sleep Number mattress and it has worked out very well for me, but my situation is a little unique. About a 1 1/2 years ago I tore my rotator cuff playing Ultimate. This left me with a fair amount of day to day pain in that shoulder and limited my ability to play. A few months ago I went through physical therapy for the injury and got back a lot of range of motion that allowed me to continue playing at a high level, but I still had daily pain, especially right when I woke up. Also, it seemed like the PT activated arthritis or something in the other shoulder. So now, both my shoulders hurt daily. I was just about to schedule another appointment with my orthopedist when we got the Sleep Number. Sleeping on it, completely eliminated the pain in my non-injured soldier and reduced the pain in my injured shoulder by more than 90%.

However, I often do wake up with mild back soreness, no matter what number I set it to.

I tried the memory foam pillow, regular down pillow, and last 2 weeks with no pillow.

Upper back and neck is just stiff..like I slept on it wrong.
