My coolest pair of sneakers I owned wore probably were "The Worm" by Nike. These were the Dennis Rodman shoes, they were red, black, and white with all kinds of rings hanging off and the first zipper to appear on Nike basketball shoes. "Damn they ugly, but I was so damn popular."

I had the sweet @ss Akeem Etonics in the Red/Yellow. They came with a record with Akeem doing his best to prove that athletes don't necessarily make great musicians. ('Uhbeatabuh')

The coolness factor was taken to the next level when I happened to see ol' #22, Rodney McCray himself beating up on a bunch of out of shape, middle aged white guys in the gym at Chaplewood Church and got him to sign each shoe. After that, I was certifiably 'smoove' for the next 4 months or so whenever I laced 'em up.

Unfortunately, my feet soon grew from 11 to 13 & I couldn't wear them anymore, and the constant pounding caused the autograph to wear off. But I was wearing those shoes the one and only time I managed to dunk on a regulation basket, and I still believe that good mojo from those shoes gave me the extra inch or too necessary.

Reebok Basketball Pumps. Size 3 1/2.

I wanted Nike Air Jordan's but my feet were too small. It was the Pumps or Nike Jordan's so I went with the Pumps. What a waste of money :(

Gangster Nike's were probably my 1st real cool shoe!!!

I wore those Vans pictured by Jeff in Kindegarden and started wearing the newer versions in Jr High.

My favorites were probably some CWebb Air Max or a pair of Jordans, dont know which ones they were. They were all white with Black all the way around at the bottom with little sparkles in the black!!!

I had those, except they were purple and green or some strange combination of colors. Great shoes, though, they lasted forever.

Here's my sad story... (by the way, I'm with Jeff and rH on the Vans... I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High and I had to get myself a pair...) Unfortunately, they were too expensive for me as a fifth grader. I ended up walking to the Fayva (sp?) store... I think it used to be on University near Kirby, and I found a pair of Fayva brand Vans rip-offs for less than half the price. Aside from the slightly-larger-than-normal-checkerboard-pattern (how cool is that?!?), the only difference was a Fayva tag on the back part of the rubber. Sadly, that was my undoing. I wore them to school and this @$$hole kid yelled out in the middle of class, "KEVIN'S WEARING FAYVAS... KEVIN'S A DORK! (In the fifth grade, I was indeed both, but that's beside the point)... For the rest of the year, a bunch of kids made fun of me about the Fayva's... but boy could I run fast in them... I was, like, the fasted boy (girls were faster at that age, remember?) in the class... I think they were magic shoes or something. I wish I still had them. They rocked.

I saw Liv Tyler on The Today Show this morning and she was wearing PINK Chuck Taylor All-Star high-tops.

I always wore Chucks as a kid. One year in high school we wore Bata Bullets (we were told that they were French-made).

I remember Adidas-- my first pair of leather basketball shoes. If I remember correctly, Rick Barry introduced them to the NBA. Those and wrist bands....

Reebok Blacktop Pumps and the first LA Gear Lights

I was pretty popular back in elementary with those LA Gear Lights. I remember seeing them in the commercials with these kids running around the streets with their shoes lighting up, pretty funny stuff.
