Just looking at the TO thread I was wondering about this. I had Strep. Throat felt like it closed up had to actually be hospitalized and on liquids for 3 days It was the only time i have ever been admitted to the Hospital. Next time i get strep . . . out come the tonsils [I really don't look forward to that . . . esp at my age] Rocket River
When I was an infant I had the "Hong Kong" flu, a distant relative of today's avian flu. I was very ill and actually in a bubble for a week or so. I don't remember any of it. I fell at work a few years ago and I had a lisfranc fracture in my right foot. I couldn't put any weight on my foot for several months. From the same injury, I chipped the bone by my ulnar tunnel (funny bone in left elbow) and had to have the nerve moved and bone filed. Prior to the surgery, I had lost feeling in my ring and little finger. The feeling is mostly back but it still aches sometimes.
Is it possible to suffocate if the throat closes to much? A few years back my thyroid went crazy and I was hospitalized. Most people don't think thyroid illness is serious, but mine was so out of control that it caused my heart to go into a life threatening arrhythmia. Then because my metabolism was so high my body lost most of its minerals and my muscles started shutting down. I was in a wheel chair for a while and even had concerns off losing control of my arms. I guess in the worst cases this could kill you because the heart will stop beating once the minerals reach lower levels.
When I was 2 my pet rabbit bit half of my right index finger off, which I'm still missing. I have 2 herniated discs in my back that hurt like a b****. I have a chromosome translocation, which basically means I'm a mutant and a superior being to the rest of you.
You guys are ligthweights. Ask MadMax about his. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=67556&highlight=died+today As for me, accute appendicitis, strained knee, broken fingers, shoulder repair surgery.
A pet RABBIT? Was it one of those huge mutant rabbits? Rabbits don't exactly have the optimum dental layout to bite off fingers....
About 17 years ago when I was a spry 23,I was injured in a car accident and had my colon and bladder punctured.Dr.Redwine and Dr.Cawood performed my emergency surgery at St.Lukes.I ended up with a colostomy and a superpubic catheter.Things hung in the balance for awhile, but I obviously pulled through. That wasn't the end though. After 3 weeks in the hospital,I was to go back 4 months later and have my pipes put back together. It was 9 weeks before I was to get that tube out of my bladder. It was a very humbling and scary experience.I went from 205 lbs and tan to ghost white and 160,just happy to be alive. But 1 week after the initial surgery I developed a cellular infection which they thought might be an abscess. So back to St.Lukes I went..They pumped me full of intravenous antibiotics and I was back home after 1 week. Again,it took 9 weeks before I was able to get that tube out of my bladder. That thing was the worst because the bladder spasms made it feel like you drank 8 - 10 beers, but couldn't take a leak.I go into the urologist's office and he says.."take out your tube".I'm like what??! So I start easing it out and he says stop and just yanks the thing out...wow.I wasn't allowed to leave until I took my first piss in 9 weeks...LOL. When I went back finally to get my intestines stapled back together there was no anxiety like the first time.My attitude was.."Let's get it on!. Everything is normal today.(except I can't drink alcohol and there are a few foods I stay away from)The wonders of modern medical technology never cease to amaze me.I was fortunate to have a loving wife(at the time),good friends, and the best Mother in the world.I had a heavy spiritual MOJO working too.In the midst of it,I made so many promises to myself and the big man upstairs.Well,I sure felt like a hypocrite, because as soon as I was well and back up to 210 or so I returned to some of the same behavioral patterns. I never thought I would face anything close to this again in my life, but I did. Life has a way of putting things in perspective. Today,I smell the roses and try to be as true to self as possible....The other thing is that this kind of adversity makes you much stronger.Trials and tribultions bring out the best and the worst in folks.I've been humbled a few times in my life and honestly believe those trials and tribulations have helped me evolve into who I am today....It's time to pay it forward.
The sickest I have ever gotten was having the flu my sophomore year in high school. I have never broken anything; I did dislocate my thumb on my right hand when I was 11. Now my wife - that's a different story. She has asthma, numerous allergies, has broken her toes so many times that she has lost count among other things.
A few years ago i was playing ball and i went up for a block and i landed on the side of my foot. I think on the way up my foot twisted a little so when i came down, i didnt come down on the sole i came down on the side and needless to say it made a nasty sound and i had to be carried home. luckily i was playing next door. i couldnt walk for a week. luckily i didnt break my ankle just sprained it reallllllly bad. I think i had a horrible stomach virus a few years back (i didnt go to the doctor) and i was puking up a storm!!! i mean literally every 5 minutes i would vomit. and i was stupid enough to go to work that day. and when i was about 5 yrs old i was standing next to a tree and a squirell crawled down really fast, then stopped right in front of me, then it crawled back up. it was just sitting there like right across from my face, then WHAM!! it attacked my neck. Those things go for the neck!!!
I have a bad back with some slipped disks. It goes out on me every year or so where I look like Tmac on the ground and I can't get up. Then it takes weeks to walk and feel normal. I shuffle around like Tim Conway doing his old man routine. I'm dealing with it right now. Other than that I have had some broken bones, nose, teeth, and my adenoids removed.
I broke my arm armwrestling- I was winning...then I lost. Spiral Compound fracture. They had to put an eight-inch titanium plate in my arm, which I still have.
Luckily we've (me & my doc) have found a reliable treatment. Topamax really helps prevent them. Yes, they are brutal even more brutal than severe migraines. Some people have compared it to getting a hot poker stuck in your eye and some have even said it was worse pain than getting an amputation.....without anesthesia.
Grand Mal Seizure - January 2006 - spent two days & nights in the hospital Nose/Throat Surgery - September 2000 - one day & night in the hospital Before those two lulus, the worst thing that ever happened to me was six stitches in my knee.
I stuck a carrot peeler up my nose then just spun it around and around until there's was no more pulp in there? Yeah... I hate it when that happens (four sinus surgeries in the last six years, two of them this year...it mostly hurts in the wallet, you kids make damn sure you have some health insurance)
that reminded me of when i was about 12 and i was outside playing ball. it had rained earlier so my driveway always gets those big puddles and when they dry they leave mud. So i was playing and the ball was going out of bounds, and i tripped while trying to get it and landed on my knee and i actually slid across the muddy concrete on my left knee. i probably slid about 4 feet maybe more. there was a car across the street backing out, she thought she had caused it. and man my knee was torn up bad, blood was flowing, it was dirty. i think it got infected, i cant really remember. took a while to heal though.
ah and one other time, last year, i was working at a warehouse, and we were cutting boxes. we were using new box cutters and they were extremely sharp, so i was slicing boxes left and right and i picked up a box to slice it at an angle then just like a hot knife through butter, the blade went through my pinky (the tip) and i bled all over that warehouse. i thought my fingertip would never grow back. but it did, and it still hurts. this thread is bringing back painful memories *covers his ears*
