Might lose a leg because he wanted to play through. I've never gotten pissed because of being asked nor encountered any one else that got pissed if my group asked to play through. About the only time I've gotten angry on the golf course was from a group constantly hitting into us instead of asking to go through. Still never thought to stab a guy in the leg, though.
Wow, am I the only one that completely thought about something different and only realized it wasn't sexual when reading the full article? No joke, I thought there was a foursome where the 4th person was lacking sexual skills and destroyed the experience for the "threesome". And then they got fed up and stabbed him. Maybe it's cause I never heard of threesome or foursome in terms of golfing, but that OP got me reaaaaally confused. Add the current state of the BBS and it would've made sense.
You don't play through. Period. Why does this guy get a pass while the guy who borrowed a Motorola razr deserves to get murdered?
You should also have the self-awareness and the courtesy to invite a group behind you to play through if you're playing at a slow pace.
I golf slow as ****. I got up before 8, I dressed like a trust fund baby, I paid for your grass. What more do you want from me? I'ma take my time and enjoy the ambience and allergies, and anybody else who is in the fast lane is more than welcome to hurry up and expedite their play. I let at least three to five groups play through, usually after I've driven and am somewhere far to the right of the fairway, every weekend that I play, which is less and less. Sad. That I don't have more time to golf. Just a tragedy.
Been golfing once. It was a horrible experience and everyone seemed hell bent on hating themselves and those around them. The only highlight was hitting a guys house twice. He came out and pointed saying "Hey, the greens that way!". I said "You live on a golf course".
Bingo. Part of being a good golfer is making sure your group is playing a good pace. If you aren't, and you see the group being you consistently waiting, you invite them to play through. Making them ask is not the right way to handle.
Ridiculous. Of course you do if the group ahead of you is moving at a snail's pace and the marshal gives you permission. Nothing worse than playing a round and having a terrible five-some in front of you making your round last 6 hours
I wish we could do that on some pick up games. I swear sometimes I run into a group taking like 30 minutes to hit 15 points! At some point they should just stop and call it even so others can use the court. /irrelevant story
On full golf course, like on a Saturday, playing through is the wrong strategy for the golf course. It just transfers the problem back and delays everyone behind the slow group. If it takes 5 minutes to play through, and a slow group let's 4 groups play through in a round, you've cost the group that finishes behind them and everyone else that plays that day 20 minutes on the round. The proper strategy on a full golf course is for the slow group to pick up and move ahead, even skipping a hole if they are more than one hole behind the pace. On a more open golf course, you do let the faster group play through, preferably, on a Par 3 hole. The slow group hits their tee shots and steps aside. The faster group steps up and hits their tee shots. All 8 proceed to green, the faster group putts out and moves on, then the slower group putts out. You get a minimum delay for everyone. And, it doesn't matter how bad you are, you can play on a 4 hour pace. The main culprits of slow play are: Lost balls - if you lose a lot of them, buy cheap ones. The rules allow 5 minutes for a lost ball but if you are going to lose 4 or 5 a round you can't really spend much time looking for a $1 ball. The rules also say a lost ball must be replayed from the original point, like walking back to the tee. But, when the rules of golf were written, every hole didn't have houses down both sides. Less accomplished golfers should agree to play out of bounds like a lateral hazard and just drop a ball at the point where it crossed the OB line with a penalty of 1 stroke. Beer Girl - beer carts should be only be serving on the tee, while other players in the group are teeing off. I could never convince the girls driving them of this though, because they aren't passing up a tip whenever they can get one. Phones- I don't care if you need to do business during a weekday round. Just be ready, or put the phone down when it is your turn. Ready Play - look at your lie and distance while others are hitting so you have your club selection ready. If you are riding two to a cart, walk to the longer ball while the shorter ball is being played and have a look. Get a free GPS on your phone and you never have to walk off yardage. On course lessons - If you are not a pro giving a playing lesson, don't. You won't help the player anyway. The practice range is for learning, the course is for playing. 25 years in golf, 4 years as the Saturday starter at Wildcat///// I did have a guy at Bear Creek once try to hit a 4 iron and stop his club before it hit a tree. He didn't, and when the club snapped it flipped back around and stuck him in the femoral artery. He almost bled to death before the ambulance got there... later he got sepsis. Just take the drop and the stoke penalty.
