If you could pick anyone to be the next Astros manager, who would you pick?

He, or she, could be anyone, including a current MLB manager.

    I'd pick Lou Pinella.

This guy can win, regardless of blows handed to his team.

if I could have anyone at all, these would be my top choices:

    1) felipe alou with moises staying, nolan ryan as pitching coach, billy hatcher as hitting coach; matt galante and jose cruz stay on the staff
    2) nolan ryan
    3) tony pena
    4) bill doran

I'd splice the DNA of Bobby Cox, Felipe Alou, Lou Piniella, Tony LaRussa, and Joe Torre and create my very own SuperSkipper!! Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

... But who am I to play God?

hey, cobra commander, why don't you just go ahead and dig up casey stengel, general patton and alexander the great and make the Serpentor of Managing?

I don't think bidge and bags would be able to withstand his managing assault.

The obvious choice is Felipe Alou. He would be a GREAT manager for this team. Players are important, but we all can certainly see how important the manager is. I just hope Drayton doesn't turn El-Cheapo on this process. Tony Pena could[i/] be a good, cheap, solution and Joe Morgan would make an interesting choice. Who else is out there really?

One guy that's sort of fallen off the map for an unknown reason is Cito Gaston. I think he'd be cheaper than Alou AND he'd have the experience we need.

    Charles Barkley,

He would not take any of that whiny excuses crap, and he could toss any player that did not agree with him through a window.

They may not win anything, but it sure would be fun to watch.

    Felipe Alou or Tony Pena.

Felipe Alou has credibility and gets the most out of his players.

Tony Pena would stay "within" the organization and would reward his work in the farm system, where he's been very successful.

A minority higher might be advisable, not only for Houston-business reasons, but also because of the changing realities of sports. Remember that kid who decided his school based on the racial constitution of the coaching staff? I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it could influence some decisions.

Needs to be Brian Flores, otherwise they'll be named in his lawsuit.
