Rock 101 KLOL. They not only took our jobs, but they took our best radio station. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KLOL
Any old-timers remember the tv show 101 Rock Place in the 80s? I remember not having MTV and looking forward to that show every week on Saturday nights; they'd play the show on the radio and it would be televised at the same time. I could watch videos on a channel other than MTV. Don't forget: Spoiler
Linda Silk and Dana Steele I believe those were the names...the greatness that was K101 over the years...they were the rock powerhouse when I first got a transistor radio in the early 70s. Still awesome thru the late 80s. Then Clear Channel bought them, and they became crap. Thank god for sat radio.
I miss 93Q being a pop station; first place I heard "Can't Touch This." Hey, you got your memories, I got mine.
I remember that show. In fact, I was on the show for about one second. Y'all remember the annual "Rockfest" that 101 held at the (then) AstroArena? They did a Rock Place show from there once, and you can see me walking in the background. I met both of them. Dayna Steele was such a hottie, but the first time I saw Linda Silk, I freaked. How can such a sexy radio voice come from someone that fugly?
Losing the local FM station isn't so much the loss of the music but the loss of a focal point for a community, the binding people of like tastes together through shared experience. (like Clutchfans!). I don't understand how a radio station like KGSR in Austin couldn't make money in Houston. It would be like Fox News, it might not garner but a small percentage of the total audience but they would be fiercely loyal and would support the advertisers (live venues, energy drinks, local food, movie advertising etc.) Maybe the guys at KGOW could start a Texas Music station.
I was about to say, didn't they change to a much needed latino format. I don't think 32 latino stations is enough.
It WAS "Reguetón" initially, but it gradually changed into "Spanish pop" and "Spanish contemporary" over time...
Yes! 97 Rock in the Morning w/ Moby and Matthews (?) and the classic 101 silver surfer! Sweet Christ in Christmas I'm old!
I remember hearing that the World Trade Center had collapsed live over the radio from Eddie "The Boner" Sanchez on Rock 101. Won't soon forget that.
Is that the one out in Katy between Mason and Peek? Sure looks like it, but I guess they'd all look the same. Anyway, the one I mention ended up blowing apart in a storm in the summer of '86 I think. We had the top half of the Runaway Radio on top of a friend's house at a party. Good times.
Same here. I was listening to the show before work when it was announced on their show. Stevens and Pruett, they were like radio gods to me when I was younger.
