I am part of this men's bible study and this week we have a homework assignment. It's kinda different, but we have to approach strangers (in some way) and collect a list of 25 questions that they may have surrounding the church or Christianity. You guys can ask whatever you wish. Is Jesus-as-human also divine (moreso than any "normal" human)? I ask because my interpretation of the Christ-myth centers around the idea that, by sacrificing the most precious part of his nature (the divine), God saves humanity. This goes along with the teachings of Jesus that those actions one does to the least among them so they do to him. For me there are two possible consequences to this view: (1) Jesus was actually a sinner because is no more perfect than any other human OR (2) Perfection (i.e. sinlessness) is not in the province of the divine, but actually contained WITHIN our abilities AS HUMANS. I prefer the second interpretation.
I have a question.... Why do evangelicals who consistently demean and denigrate homosexuality, like Ted Haggard, always get caught with their pants down in a homosexual relationship?
How do you reconcile an all loving God with the church teaching of an eternal Hell? Granted with free will, it is our decision, but it's still doesn't sound fair to spend an eternity from them.
I'm not a Christian so this is really something that I haven't really quite gotten a grasp of, despite having a friend tried to explain it to me a while back. What is the Trinity? So it's like the Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit.. but how does it work? 1. What is the Holy Spirit? 2. How do they all sum up to be ONE? 3. So the Son died for humanity's sins. Did he die so the Father would forgive? Why can't he just ask? Or if he's part of the Trinity, can't he have mankind's sins forgiven without having to suffer on the cross? 4. Why do you need to go to the confession booth to ask for forgiveness? Can't you ask and pray to God yourself for forgiveness? Why need a priest as a mediator? I hope this isn't offending anyone. These are some real points that I'm curious about.
What is the difference between -- Lutherans, Episcopalians, Baptists, Southern Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Church of Christ, Catholics, Roman Catholics, Orthodox Church, Anglicans, etc, etc, etc...?
Do you think the purpose of the assignment would be fulfilled better if you actually went up to strangers instead of asking people on an internet message board>
Are pork and alcohol allowed to be consumed according to the bible? If Christ is the son of god, and Mary is the mother of christ, what is the status of Mary? Is she a god? Is she divine? according to the bible of course...
If your God made the unviverse and interacts with it, how is he also not a part of it? If he is, then how is the universe less than divine?
If god really loves his children then why does he allow innocent babies to be born addicted to crack?
Probably butting in here, but..... NO I know some very happy atheists and I personally love to talk to atheists. just my opinion.
Why are some people full of so much hatred or immaturity that they constantly seek out avenues to show their disrespect? Is it because they have no other avenue to attempt to sound superior other than the internet? Seriously. If you don't have the maturity to respect the original poster why don't you just move along and post in another thread.
When you go to heaven how do you think, see, talk, feel etc. without a physical body? Would you really want to go somewhere where you never get sad, lonely, bored, and so on? Doesn't that sound like a pretty unthought out pipe dream? What is a soul made of?
If the word of God is complete truth, like how it is taught to be in the church, why do most Christians ignore a lot of it? (such as, women are supposed to wear a covering on their head to church as specified in the corinthians, no ornamentation, etc). Am I living in sin if I disobey this admonition?
