Witness the Chicago Bulls, they are absolutely lethal on defense without having a great shotblocker big man.

Tom Thibodeau is a defensive genius.

uh..........i'll let you realize how wrong that statement is on your own.

Tom Thibodeau IS a defensive genius though.

They are well-built and athletic. And their coach has them playing good defense. End of conversation. Start of a long night for Rockets.

Anyone who thinks we don't need an upgrade to be able to compete even at 2nd or 3rd tier of the NBA (in which the Bulls are) needs to just watch this game to be convinced.

Between the both of them, they average 3 blocks a game, not including altering shots..........

Umm, if you have a center who defends and rebounds defensively very well, a big point guard, PFs who are mobile and strong, a defensive minded SG, and a solid defender at the SF, then yeah, you dont need one. Isn't that obvious? All their players play at least solid D in the starting lineup. On top of that they have a defensive-minded coach. They pretty much have everything else covered, so why would they need a shot blocker?

Rose, Bogans, Deng, Noah, Brewer, Gibson, Asik... those are all very good bodys to play a good defense. What we have? Scola, Martin, Budinger, Miller, a 6-6 center, a rookie backup PG...

Noah is a beast, he is a shot blocker and alters plenty more. That said, like many others have said, TT is a defensive guru.

Yeah and you don't need a big dick to satisfy your woman either. But it sure helps.

This is the result of drinking too much when you watch a game.

Noah is a pretty decent shot blocker.

    1) Chicago does have shot blockers - Noah and Gibson are no slouches. Not including their 3bpg avg (combined) - this does not include the shots they alter.

    2) While a shot blocker may not be "necessary" to play exceptional defense, but to be a contender you do.

    Lakers - Pau, Odom, Bynum
    Magic - Dwight Howard
    Spurs - Tim Duncan
    Hornets - Okafor
    Mavs- Chandler and Haywood
    Jazz - Jefferson and Kirlinko
Celtics - Garnett and Shaq (while not great shot blocking numbers, but enough to alter shots down low).

All of the above are IMO contenders this year.
