Jindal, Palin and Bachman tried to make it close, but this just wouldn't be possible without Michael Steele. Thank you Michael, thank you basso (and all your weird ass ilk) for supporting him, thank you, thank you, thank you. There has never been a greater gift to Democrats and other lefties than the hip hop hipness of this "friggin awesome" Republican. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/02/26/steele-to-cpac-the-republican-party-is-just-fine/ Steele to CPAC: The Republican party is just fine Posted: 09:45 PM ET From From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby RNC chairman Michael Steele spoke to the annual conservative conference Thursday. WASHINGTON (CNN) – Capping off a day of conservative soul-searching, strategizing and navel-gazing at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele announced Thursday that the Grand Old Party is “alive and well.” Steele, addressing CPAC’s Presidential Banquet, told the audience that “the conservative movement must become a revolution,” and the goal “must be nothing less than the transformation of America.” “Tonight, we tell America that Republican values, conservative values, are right for America,” he said, admitting that the party has made some mistakes. “Tonight, we tell America: we know the past, we know we did wrong. My bad. But we go forward in appreciation of the values that brought us to this point.” To much applause, Steele attacked the Obama administration’s recently-passed stimulus package, calling it “nothing short of frightening.” He said conservatives must use the political moment to re-assert their belief in a set of basic principles: limited government, freedom, opportunity and the ability of the free market to “create, innovate and prosper.” November’s losses, he contended, should not be a discouragement. “I am here tonight to reject the idea that defeats of the past are a repudiation of core conservative values and principles,” he said. “Nor do I believe that those defeats are a sign of things to come.” The former Maryland Lt. Governor took a moment to honor two of his former rivals for the RNC chairmanship who were in attendance, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and Michigan GOP chairman Saul Anuzis. Steele began his remarks by needling Anuzis, who ran for the post on a platform of upgrading the party’s technological savvy. “Alright Saul, stop Twittering,” he cracked. As Steele concluded his remarks, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann — the event's moderator — told Steele he was “da man.” “Michael Steele! You be da man! You be da man,” she said.
No. Good guess though. A black man chairing the GOP would be funny enough -- you're right. But Steele makes it way funnier. I'm making fun of a complete and total square trying to act hip and an entire party pretending it's working. Every time this man opens his mouth the nation cringes. Except weird ass Michelle Bachmann. Steele was weird enough but now we have Bachmann saying "You be da man." Just wow.
I like Michael Steele. Some may think his appointment is contrived- I can see that. However, the GOP is making a real effort to reach out to minorities. I can't see how that is a bad thing.
There are plenty of black Americans that agree with the Republican Party ideals. The Republican Party just needs to reach out to them and gain their trust. I have a feeling that the Obama presidency may end up helping the Republican's cause immensely, but we shall see.
He's well past an Uncle Tom. He's an Uncle M.C. Hammer. And since you seem so clueless here, let me help. It's not because he's a black Republican. I have no beef there. It's because he thinks that 15 year old slang will endear the GOP to blacks. And the GOP, amazingly, seems to agree. Every interview this guy has given since assuming the office has been littered with "old skool" slang. Who does he think he's kidding? And, worse, who does the party think they're kidding? On the one hand, they expose the fact that they think Obama and all politics is nothing but marketing. On the other hand, they're horrible at it. Dy-No-Mite!!!!
Oh, I am not clueless. I know exactly what is going on here. Somebody is attempting to encroach upon sacred Democrat territory, and the resulting fight is going to be ugly.
The Republican candidate for President hasn't gotten more than 10% or so of the black vote in about 30 years. I would say it's fairly clear what black Americans agree with these days and the GOP isn't it.
Actually, you're absolutely clueless if you think that electing a black man head of the GOP is "encroaching" on anything. Black people aren't idiots. They don't vote for people simply because they're black; they've been voting for whites for a lot of years. They vote their interests. Like everyone. And they're not persuaded by "you be da man" campaigns. Every time Steele opens his mouth he makes a minstrel of himself. Worse, he makes a minstrel of himself from 15 years ago. But you don't even know it's happening. Your response: "I like Steele. I like that our party's reaching out to blacks." Blacks are laughing at Steele. And the GOP. And you. What's amazing is that the GOP and Michael Steele apparently don't know that. They honestly seem to believe that all they need to do is throw some (outdated) slang into their (outdated) policies and all of a sudden blacks will vote against their interests. Like so many poor whites have done for so many years. This isn't the time for y'all to try to expand. You've already lost your base as they lost their jobs, health care and education to Republican policies. But please, be my guest. Respond to the latest massacre by employing "hip hop" lingo to the same tired old ideas. I'd thought we'd have a three party system before a one party one. Shows what i know. And you guys don't even know you should be embarrassed about this stuff. It really is amazing.
Imagine if the right pilloried Obama's race, a half-black man, the way libs apparently feel they can mock Steele's race, a black man. Batman, you are just out of line here. I realize you are posting late at night, so you might not have all of your wits about you, but this is out of line. Shame on you. Especially after your party used race as a weapon in the last election, and it was the difference in the election.
Oh please. As the king of overt racial prejudice on this board, you have ZERO room to say ANYTHING about this.
Putting Mr. steele there made folx look at the Repubs but . . . . folx just not liking what they see Generally Black people are very conservative but only on certain issues. . . the Repubs don't seem to get that I was reading something talk about the Repubs stating the fight in the party is between Social Conservatives and Fiscal Conservatives Basically Just because you are ONE does not automatically make you the Other That is the twofaces of that party Rocket River
the pleasure of waking up and reading the Batman Jones "late-night" post (or in this case, series of posts) is truly something special You be da man, Bats
