Maybe it is wrong forum to post them but on this board I see two types of YOFs. The Yao only Fans and the Young (Vince) only Fans. How many people on this (ahem Tinman) are more than happy to cheer Vince Young and his team even if it's not located in Houston? Is there anything wrong with being a YOF (for Yao)? I've seeing the label thrown around way in a negative way quite often, but is there anything wrong with rooting for a team only because you identify with the single superstar on that team?
I think most people agree that it's okay to like the Rockets just because you like Yao Ming. I think what makes most people angry is when some "Yao Only Fans" are such big fans of Yao that there obsession extends to the exclusion of the rest of the team. A good Yao Only Fan would be happy if the Rockets won and Yao Ming took 10 shots. A bad Yao Only Fan would demand that the rest of the Rockets stop impeding Yao's progress as a player and allow him to shine and make China and the rest of the world proud. That said... this was a pretty stupid thread idea.
Maybe not a great thread idea but it did bring about something I never thought of, folks proclaiming someone a Yao-Only fan while they're hyprocritical as can be being a Vince-Only fan. But yeah sorry this thread's on its way to Nowheresville.

come on man you were here for the dreaded YOF Wars back in 02. You know why, and you know why long-time Rockets fans reacted badly towards the number two kind of Yao fan that D-Horse talked about. As long as the fanatical Yao fans realize that the rest of us wont kiss Yaos butt anymore then he deserves as a member of our team...he isnt god nor is he Dream.....he is what he is... a fantastically skilled bigman who is ONE of the stars of our favorite team. recognize that alot of us see him that way...and we wont overlook his faults anymore than you guys wont overlook the faults of the guys we have around him. You want us to overlook his faults? quit being so damn critical of the rest of the team....

I have no problem with YOFs as long as they admit it up front, don't deny bias, don't accuse others of being a YOH and call them names whenever they criticize Yao or don't say things just the right way. For a while it got kinda of loopy around here but things have settled down. Let's keep it that way. Everyone should remember this is a Rockets forum and not a Yao, Tracy or (name your favorite player) forum.
I love most rockets and former rockets. I can safely say I'm a rockets fan, and not obsessed with any player. I still like francis, I still hate Pippen. If I was a Yao fan I wouldn't be on this forum, and wouldn't mind trading him or T-mac. The problem is there isn't a center better than Yao.

What does it mean to be a YOF? I wouldn't want us to trade Yao, even if I knew that there's a good chance it would improve the team. Does that make me a YOF?
There are people on the board who deep down in their heart want Tmac do better than Yao. There is nothing wrong with that, but when the whole league woke up and recogized the Yao existence, some Rockets fans are still living in the past. It is just so sad. Like it or not, Rockets' future is depending on Yao. Disliking the YOF just shows that you don't really love rockets. You know how much Yao has brought to the Rockets. I love Yao not just because he is a great player, because he is a great human beiing. Tell me which player is more decent than he. He does not have to play a single game and I stll love him and support him 100%. I am the YOF, but what is wrong with that. Ask yourself if you don't like Yao, what kind of player you like? What Yao attracts people is not just his bball skills. It is the whole package. Do you guy understand? I guess not.
You are taking this way too far. Most people don't dislike YOFs for being YOFs. The problem is the name-calling and accusations a few of them make when you don't kiss Yao's ring the way they do. Some will blast away with accusations of racism and YOH when another member makes a critical comment. This is completely uncalled for. The lack of tolerance for other opinions is the issue more than being a YOF. I can understand where YOFs are coming from and don't blame them at all. Yao is a great guy who represents himself very well. His love of country and pride are exemplary. If I had to chose 5 NBA players I thought were great human beings, Yao would be one of them. Just don't flame me for being a ROF (Rockets-only fan) when I say something you don't like about Yao. johnxi, please don't take this wrong but for you to say that disliking some of the YOFs means I don't love the Rockets is just plain idiotic. I loved the Rockets 20 years before Yao got here and I'll love them after he's gone. Do YOU understand now? Hope so.
That's a mighty big accusation there you got anything to back that up? What you're saying is that there are posters here who hate Yao so much that they want to see the Rockets do poorly. While there might be people who hate JVG so much I doubt anyone wants the Rox to do poorly just to spite.

It doesnt NEED, to have Yao be great, only consistantly good. a 27 ppg TMac and a 20ppg Yao is far superior to a 27 ppg Yao and 20 ppg Tmac. For as absurd as that sounds its true. Ive pointed out before that JVG is waaaaaaaaaay to happy with Tmac being the distributor, and not the lead guy, OR AT LEAST a 50/50 guy with Yao. JVG needs to find a way to incorporate Tmac into the scoring load that isnt High post pick and roll - dish to the open man every time. This is what everyone means when the say the game is meant for the little man. Triple teams Yao in the middle and clog the lane. Barkley was right when he said the Rockets are a minimal playoff team. Considering we have two of the best position players in the league, thats absurd also. I mean how long into the season can the Rox go before they actually beat a team that had a winning record coming into the game? One month and counting, and its not looking good so far against the Suns. Zero good wins.
This is quintessential YOF talk here. You think the world is out to get you. You think people lie in wait to diss Yao Ming. You think all everyone not Chinese does is sit around and think of ways to insult you, your nation, and your national heroes. Memo to you: You're wrong. Sit down. Shut up. Posting more of this drivel is not going to win you any friends. Only in the context of discussing team strategy and the state of the NBA landscape do people talk about the need for Tracy to improve his scoring. This is no discredit to Yao. It's simply a fact that Yao or anyone else in the world up to and including Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson can win a championship by themselves. NO ONE SECRETLY WANTS TRACY TO OUTPERFORM YAO. Why is it so hard to understand that the team comes first? The very fact that the "bad" YOF's are resented so heavily is because this is the very mentality they espouse, only in reverse. They want YAO to outperform TMac, Shaq, Kobe, Zhang Fei, and everyone else imaginable just to prove some kind of narrow-minded nationalistic point. There are some Tmac only fan on this forum too. You might not be the one, but there are some. As I said before too, there is nothing wrong with that. I am not accuse them of be ones at all. Just point out the fact. They can do whatever they want and be whoever they wants, but don't label others as YOF and not happy about it.
