Not that it really matters much to Rox's win column but here we go... http://www.nba.com/milk_rookie/power_rankings_030122.html NO. 2 : YAO MING, C, HOUSTON ROCKETS Stats: 40 GP, 12.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, .518 FG%, 2.03 bpg, .769 FT%, 26.8 mpg Last Week: 4 GP, 9.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.75 bpg, 29.3 mpg Notes: Numbers were down this week, but he responded when it mattered ... While he only managed 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in his showdown with Shaq in Houston, he proved himself to be a worthy foe to the Lakers' great. Most importantly, the Rockets won the game. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/awards Rookie of the Year 1. Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns 2. Yao Ming, Houston Rockets 3. Caron Butler, Miami Heat 4. http://foxsports.lycos.com/content/view?contentId=867922 Midseason rookie of the year Amare Stoudemire, Suns Despite the fact Yao Ming has shown he is going to be one of the league's best big men some day, he has not had the impact this season that Stoudemire has had in Phoenix. Simply stated, no player ever has come straight out of high school and played as well as Stoudemire has this season. His numbers speak for themselves: 13.4 points per game, 9.4 rebounds and 1.02 blocks. Stoudemire moved into the Suns' starting lineup 10 games into the season and has a permanent spot there. He has given the Suns an inside presence they have not had since Charles Barkley left and is the biggest reason Phoenix is the most surprising success story of the first half of the season.
http://cbs.sportsline.com/nba/story/6145569 Rookie of the year Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns: The general consensus is Stoudemire is the best rookie ever directly out of high school, called a combination of Karl Malone and Shawn Kemp by Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders. It's tough to overlook the impact of Houston's Yao Ming, but Stoudemire has averaged 13.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and a block compared to 12.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks for Yao. Caron Butler has played well in spurts for Miami, but not at this level, and the Heat aren't winning.
It doesn't matter, guys. Yao is not here for ROY, he is looking for champion and MVP. Let's see who can handle him when he solves fatigue, upper strength and elevation problem.
If the Rockets just play team ball, and distribute the roc without turning the ball over. I think Yao still gets it.
I agree with you Roc Paint. Basically the numbers are same, espcially if you Yao's assists. The team with better record will make it easier for the player to win it. Though I hope Yao can get out of his rookie wall - if its really possible within a season.
Yao is an allstar. Amare is not. I don't care in the least if Amare wins ROY. All star is a bigger honor anyways.
All star is NOT a bigger honor in my book. All stars are voted by fans. Fans are not always right. Unless you think Vince Carter deserves to be on the Squad. ROY is voted on by a panel of "experts". Ill trust that decision more than the All star ballots.
ming is my favorite and he's a pimp, but damn stoudemire is awesome for that young, ming is on his way though
Actually, I've never taken those "experts" seriously. Those people say things so they can sell more paper/ads. When you take the "MEDIA" people's opinion over the true fans, then you are just one of them. The coaches are bias as well, just look at the year the Bulls has three all-stars voted by the coaches, S. Pippen, H. Grant, BJ Armstrong. Com'on, BJ? He won't voted in for the CBA!
You do think he sucks, regardless where he is from? He is a good center for Rockets, also a verified center from Western NBA. Don't look all them down, will you?
I still think Ming wins ROY. I think he start to play better really soon. Maybe even starting tonight.
If he'll get more aggressive and start dunking the ball all over people, he'll get noticed a lot more.
I have to agree.....and I'm happy as can be to have Yao, but I wouldn't be crying if Amare was playing like he is on the Rockets instead. I think he deserves ROY at this point.
