Interesting article, given that Thorpe is also Kevin Martins trainer. If Thorpe turns this project big man around, Thrope will probably achieve elite status even among the best of the NBA trainers.

Yi has kind of played like the young Stro Swift in his first few years-- flashes of brillians seperated by periods of stupidity. The guy is definitely a physical speciment, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my recollection there is no 'e' in hoping. Now, if it were 'hopping' the p would be doubled...

Yi is a mediocre player and will never be elite. Here's to wishing for the impossible...

There's an "e" if it's Yi who is doing it.

Yeah, I know... terrible typing by me. That wasn't even the only typo. "Working" is supposed to have an "n," too, but you get the message. :)

And by the way, for Yi, "mediocre" (as in average) would be an improvement over his prior performance.

That's great and all but how come we can't figure out how old Yi is?

Some coaches just can't get the best out of international players.

    Shrug.

He looked pretty good the first two wizards game. Very mobile for a seven footer. He also had a strong showing with the Chinese national team this summer. Still, as long as he remains inconsistent who cares.

He didn't look terrible in those Washington games like everyone seems to like saying. He got a double double and yeah it means nothing but that long thread about him being the worst player in the NBA was jumping the gun.

Yea but you have to realize most American posters here can't think for themselves and have grown to hate China with all the negative news being shown in the media, but they can't completely hate on Yao since he's one of us...for now.

So they needed someone else to let off the steam ;)

Every summer we heard and read the same thing about Yi:
He is about to have a break through season.
and the result? Well, we all know, traded by another disappointed employer.

Nope. The reason why people are dissapointed is because they expect too much out of him; first they expected him to be the next Yao, then they expected him to be a borderline allstar, when all the while he's been steadily improving his game, which was super unrefined when he first entered. If poeple weren't so biased (racially, cultrally, whatever) or caught up in the hype, they'd see that Yi has shown significant improvement over the years. In Washington, where they don't expect alot out of him, he might just flourish into a legit 4th option or spark off the bench, and that should be enough of a break through in itself. Just keep greating adversity with your smile, Yi. (negative verb)ers are gonna (negative verb).

But yeah, I actually think Yi has looked very good in the past few months. We'll see what happens. I agree that he has been steadily improving since entering the NBA. He could be very decent at some point.

Yi is a skilled player and mobile for a 7 footer but all PF's need to be able to rebound and defend in the post.
