So last night I discovered that my LCD Aquos, which was a floor model, has developed a little pixel issue in the far left corner. Lucky for me, Circuit City threw in the warranty for half off in addition to knocking $1000 off the price.

    Here's the question:

Mine is a first gen Aquos, meaning they dont make that model anymore. And of course I paid Jan 2004 pricing on it.

I know they cannot fix it, so they are going to replace it. The million dollar question is....will they give me another 37", just the newer model? Or will they give me $3000 of credit to apply to a new model? Either way I win.

i'm confused. did you just buy it and got the warranty for half the price at the time of purchase? or are you asking if your current warranty will cover the product?

if you haven't used the warranty, how do you know it wasn't a waste of money?

The way it was at Best Buy was that they would give you something comprable to what you bought. If you guys can't come up with something comprable they wll give you whatever you paid for it to pick out something else. It's usually the discretion of the manager. If you read your warrenty form it will tell you.

Of course if you b**** enough about it you can get anything you want from them.

It seems like it would make the most sense to give you a model that is pretty close to the one that is damaged..... since I'd think a warranty would get you back to your starting point (37 inch tv breaks so warranty gives you another 37 inch tv).

No idea though what they wil actually do though since they don't have exact model anymore...

If they replace it at their discretion, just make sure you're getting the features that Aquos had and not something low-end. The fact that extended warranties exist is probably enough evidence the consumer usually loses out on them. :D That being said, for expensive purchases like that, I always get it. I've only had to exercise an extended warranty (non-car) one time. It was a disc changer for my car I bought from Circuit City... they replaced it no questions asked. I wonder if they'll give you another floor model? :D

I just bought a 46" Samsung flat panel LCD (LN-S4695D) from Circuit City and the warranty was $900. Its for 5 years. They told me that if anything happens to it, that they will give me store credit for what I paid for the TV and that I can get whatever I want.

I must add that it is a beautiful TV. We loves it. My precious.

i used to work at circuit city and basically what they will do is if it can be fixed or replaced with the same model they will give you store credit in the amount you purchased the tv for only. not the city advantage added on, just the tv and sales tax (if applicable) price. chances are you may not be able to get the same tv at that price since it was a open box. you could see if they are willing to give you a better floor model at the same price or for just a little bit more. its not a total win-win you will not be able to get the amount u paid for the warranty back but its still better than being out a tv

You don't "win" anything. The warranty is there as INSURANCE. You will end up EVEN STEVEN. ;)

That's my understanding...I've done this for lots of stuff at Best Buy, but not Circuit City...

I may be in the market for a TV soon...

You'll be offered something equal to what you have or you can choose yourself if they give you a store credit

instead of getting warranties, get a costco membership...they take back anything not questions asked as long as you have a receipt. i took back a tv after three years..full refund and bought me another one and they didnt ask me a thing

I love the Circuit City warranty policy. They don't dick around or anything -- they just give you store credit, and it's all good. It comes in very helpful when you buy something like an MP3 player that is destined to break within 3 years -- the warranty is like $60, but you basically get your money back.

i can vouch for that. My friend works there and said the same thing. Just keep the receipt and the boxes and stuff and they will take it back no questions asked. They can give you a hard time at first but they will always take it back.

Basically, thats what they told me over the phone.
The key is that a 37" aquos in 2004 is basically the price of a 42" now.
Curious to see what happens, I would not mind the upgrade in size since I have moved to a much larger apt.
