A lot of people don't understand why I (or anybody) would choose to be vegan, and think i'm going too far and being obsessive with my diet. These things are happening all day every day, it's absolutely sickening and infuriating. It's ****ing torture to billions of innocent creatures.
Funny you mentioned milk. I got into a discussion about milk with a co worker recently and it went something along these lines: CoWorker : Did you know that humans are the only animal that drink other animals milk? Me : Ok..? CoWorker : Its not good for you! Me : We are also the only animals that drive cars and play on computers.. CoWorker : So? Me : Because we learned that.. just like we learned to take milk from other animals. CoWorker : No. Other animals don't drink others species milk because its not healthy! Me : So if I poor a bowl of milk and give it to an animal of your choice it wont drink that bowl of milk? I guarantee if I put a bowl of milk in front of a cat it will drink that ish up. They don't do it because the access to it isn't there. Seemed to shut her up for the time being BTW I do not condone dairy farms where many animals are held up in tiny places like a holocaust camp and treated like slaves/prisoners. But say you have a cow on your little piece of free range land. I see no problems you going out and milking it from time to time. Milk is delicious. on a completely unrelated note. I bet I have sex with my new coworker in less than 2 weeks (well unless she is married or in a relationship- I don't condone that. I saw no ring though)
That's NEVER the case. A cow on a little piece of free ranged land isn't what's supplying the world all of it's milk, I promise. It's the holocaust hell hole torture mass production plants that's in your bowl of sugar candy cereal. Lets be real here.
Meat is murder. All those who partake in this lifestyle will be seen in the fiery pits of hell on judgement day.
I drink my milk from pasture-fed, free-range and organic cows It'd be much more useful to advocate that then saying everyone should be barred from milk. There is enough space and land to make free range work. You would have a much better time convincing the populace to drink milk from those cows than you would convincing people to never drink milk In one fashion you have an oppurtunity to make a difference in the world.. In the other your wasting your time because people will never stop drinking milk
Well then that's awesome! Just saying 99% of people don't, yet have the image of a fairyland cow being milked by sally sue, when in reality there milk is being produced in the exact same conditions as the video OP posted.
I believe in animal rights and I respect you for feeling enough empathy for the animals that you choose to be vegan. Unfortunately, this same logic is why I don't want to go through the trouble of being a vegan. It's essentially a boycott by a fringe minority group, and me being a vegan won't make the difference vegans want to make. Our world's resources and food supplies are growing more strained every year as population continues to explode. Information and - more importantly - affordable, convenient, sustainable alternatives are what are going to make the difference. What won't help is preaching (not saying you are... but what's the first thing most people think of when they think of vegans? To me it's like a religious zealot.) In a world so full of misinformation we are too good at tuning out loud voices. I think most people would agree that they wouldn't consciously support cruelty to animals. But during a 5 day work week with kids and a tight budget, they don't know their easy alternatives. Like milk. They just buy what they see on all of the commercials in between Kardashians episodes.
That's why its important to educate. People won't take others too serious with a video and them saying "no milk ever for anyone!" People will take others serious with a video followed by milk benefits from cows not being held up in a hellistic camp being fed crap cereal rations.. which is a much much much more superior product. Pasture-fed free range cow milk is one of the most nutritionally sound food product on this entire earth loaded with an abundance of protein, vitamins and minerals and so much more healthy fat soluble nutrients than cows held in captivity being fed crap. Thats where the battle should be if you want some sort of change-- because the more popular that movement becomes... the cheaper the product will eventually become... which means more people jumping ship into that ideology since it fits within budget and wouldn't have a problem paying 50 cents more for a much healthier and tastier milk that you know involves no or very little animal torture.
Oil prices just halved in the last six months. Copper and iron ore prices have been falling the past few years. Even agricultural commodities are declining in price. Resources are not growing "strained". Neo-malthusianism, however, still seems to be alive and well.
blah blah blah blah ... The real question is, are you willing to pay twice the cost of milk? It wont be a .50 increase.
People are very happy to pay premium prices for the chance to let others know they value their health and can afford to do so. See gluten free.
The milk people have me over a barrel. I would easily pay 6 dollar a gallon if that was my only choice.
The almonds I get my milk from have their own secluded milking station and private masseuse when they feel they've given too much and/or tired. It's really more of a resort
