I dont think they have any connections with Yao Ming. In their website they dont even mention Yao Ming. They just use "Yao" on their T-Shirt. I would like see it to go bankrupt if not sooner.
Why? They claim to be legal, and the shirts are actually pretty cool. The above would look great at the Compaq Center - heck, it would at least get you on tv.
So you dont get pissed if some street punk sell you shirts using our star player's fame, making 10 bucks each. You will probably better off by buying a palin T-shrit, print whatever you want to print there. BTW, their design is really bad...
Hey man, if Yao wants to get mad, let him. Why would it anger me if they're using his image in a positive way to make a buck while simulataneously producing a good product (IMO). I mean, Yao Ming and Aunt Jamima - that's good design.
I wish! If it truly is legal, as they claim, I imagine they could sell a couple of hundred shirts a night on game night right outside Compaq (although that, I think, isn't legal) I can't imagine they will do anything less than breakeven with minimal work (short of a lawsuit). Also, in terms of legality, is it really that much different than Chance's Yao Ming song selling CD's?
I am sorry but if my skin was 6 inches thick I still wouldn't do this type of business practice. This is a guarantee to let the world see how much of a fool you are by paying someone to wear these shameful products, who is obviously trying to rip off from another person's/companies' fame. Look at some of the logos they were outright stolen from another companies', who had paid thousands of dollars for their distinctive designs and they have to be in business for years inorder for their logos to get recognized. It's a crime to still someone's property. The last thing i want is supporting creemeenooos. Watch out people there might be "Bokiiwear" next year.
There is distinct difference between Chance's work and T-shirt like that. Chance's work is pure creativity and deserve whatever he should be awarded. But T-shirt like, it is pure rip off by using someone's fame. They are trying to rip you and me, the regular Yao Ming fans. In my eyes, this is no different than stealing. What's their selling point? Was there any effort made by them, did Yao Ming even endorse tthem saying this is offical Yao Ming T-Shirt. No, this is just a website that can be setup by any parasites, selling some knock-off shirts. The ridiculous thing is they are aware of protecting their copyrights and making them sound like legit biz. It just an rip-off amatuer home-grown website, that's all. They are leagal to exist because they didnt use any explict word like Yao Ming, they are just saying YaoWear. Their goal is clear that is to rip off you and me, Does that make you pissed off. Now it's your judgement whether you should endorse a business like that.
I am sure Chance is respectful enough talk to Yao about the song and get an O.K. from Yao. I doubt "Yaowear.com" have contacted Team Yao, Gerber Babies Food Co., Quaker Oaks Co. to use their names and logos for their business.
I seriously, seriously doubt Chance asked Yao for permission before making his song. Didn't you guys think the "Free Wynona" shirts were hilarious, either? Regardless, I'm a huge Yao fan and I was more than happy to purchase the Ming Dynasty shirt. These guys aren't criminals, and I don't believe they're violating any copyright laws in their pursuit of these shirts. They're creating parodies of well-known themes without fraudently making it seem like their products are endorsed by the celebrity/brands involved. Nope. These are cute, and I'm passing on the link to my friends.
Oh, please. Why bother if they dont make money. How much they sell each shirt. 18 bucks? They make 10 bucks each at minimum. If they sell 1000 shirts that is 10 grand. Bunch of jerks. THEY ARE NOT THE OFFICIAL YAO MING WEAR, and go read their disclaimer in the front page, it is pure joke. Man I dont know it is suspicious now that you ...
I said anything less, i.e. - worst case scenario they break even. I am oddly suprised about the reaction here. When I found the site, even though I knew it wasn't official Yao clothing, I thought the shirts were creative and funny - didn't expect so much backlash.
Making a song with catchy phrase using Yao Ming and making money by using words like "Yao" without endorsement are different. Now if you think this is worth 18 bucks, that's your choice. Will you buy a kock-off shoe saying "Air MJ"?
