What do you think we can get for him? I think: Sacramento would be interested and would give us Cousins straight up for him and the opportunity to sign him to an extension. This would give us a #5 lottery pick and a huge trade exception or possibly Dalembert's expiring if we want it. I think: Philly would definitely give us Iggy and Brand for Yao and Jared Jeffries. But I don't know if that would be enough since Brand's contract is a lot of weight. I think we may be able to get Evan Turner as well or a first round future (2011 or 2012) draft pick. I think: Denver would be extremely interested in a Yao for Melo deal with other things being considered such as a first round pick and a couple young players like Hill and Bud. I think: Atlanta would give us Josh Smith and Zaza for the chance to see if Yao can still play and re-signed to a mediocre contract to play next to Horford as they move Horford to PF. What do you think his trade value is?
I think this one would be the better benefit for the team. Although the contracts are ugly, the team would definitely be better from it.
Yeah maybe they would if Yao passes a physical. But that would mean Yao is court ready and playing up to par his old standards. And would be the stupidest trade in franchise if Yao is healthy and playing again.
I think being a FAgent this summer, not being healthy and recovering from such a big injury makes his value really low. If he can come back and play 30 min at a fairly high level then his value increase quite a bit.
It seems that I read/heard somewhere that teams will see expiring contracts as less valuable than usual because of the new CBA. Harder to judge what an expiring contract will do for you when you can't pinpoint a salary cap or luxury tax line.
value to whom? A team sending another player here to shed salary right? A player with long overpaid deal. I guess If you call that value then yeah I guess 5 cents on the dollar is better than nothing. You're talking about Elton Brand, Greg Oden, Chris Kaman type deals.
a team would only trade for yao for monetary reasons. there is no way you can commit anything to a guy who can't play consistently. but if he proves he can stay healthy (which is highly unlikely right now), his value should be pretty high.
Yao has zero value till he shows he can stay on the court for at least 50 games without a minute or back to back game limitations. Thats not even factoring in how good he plays when he is on the floor. At this stage of the game we are just talking about Yao being able to run up and down the floor grab rebounds and change shots around the basket. Him being able to that has Value all by its self. If he cant do those simple things he does not have a place in the nba. There is not a gm out there right now who would take Yao contract and give us Draft picks our Young talented players. The best we could get would be other expiring contracts or Players with a average level of play and disgusting contracts. Our best play right now is to keep him and see how recovers.
Jopatmc, you are a good poster. Surprising that you would post the above. Didn't mama tell you to stay away from the mushrooms?
Special circumstance, NY, Chicago and others wanted McGrady's contract due to the big summer splash. This season, there won't be nearly the same type FAgents available and with the CBA a mess, teams can't plan like NY and Chicago tried to last deadline. I wouldn't trade him just to trade him, he has value but the point is to play him and if he recovers nicely then either move him for something valuable or keep him to help the team.
