When they began to double him early in the 4th, I guess it opened up for other shooters to get open and hit the shot

Thanks. He got several touches in the low post in the 4th quarter. Was that Yao doing a better job in fighting for position, or was his defender just not providing enough resistance?

A little of both, i think. The wizards had Etan Thomas on him for a little bit, who gives up nearly 8 inches and about 40 pounds...but that was only early in the quarter (those three pass-outs at the top of the 4th quarter chart...they knew it was a mismatch and the doubles came quick, despite thomas doing an admirable job fighting for posistion).

They then tried JaVale McGee, who, despite his 7 foot size and 20-years-young youthful vigour, couldn't move Yao. It was McGee's 2nd start ever. He weighs only 237 pounds. He played for Nevada in college...he's used to pushing around 6 foot 6 Rice centers. Yao smelled blood and just manhandled McGee down the stretch, plain and simple.

Thanks for the chart. Interesting stuff.

Efficient Yao equals efficient offense. Thats pretty obvious from the graph. All those pass outs in the 4th resulted in 3 point bombs.

It feels good teaching people how to watch basketball. CluchCityReturns, you're becoming a student of the game. Nice work my pupil. :D

 What did you teach him?

This was a perfect game for Yao, though. He had some bigs who decided not to front him despite being much too small and weak to be successful playing him from behind.

He created alot of offense for his teammates but he should have been able to destroy those guys when they weren't doubling him.

Well about a week ago, I was tired of the crying about Yao not touching the ball.I told posters that you can't look at the box score and tell how many times a player touched the ball. So I created a thread called the yao ming touch report. It was basically detailing his touches in positions on the court. Eventhough he had like 12 shots, he touched the ball 24 times in scoring positions. So the op did another report and put it in chart form like above. I've always wached hoops different from maybe 80% of the fans. I just wanted people to watch and learne the game as opposed to picking up a paper and reading the boxscore. Didn't ur sig used to say stop watching the stats and watch the game? That's what I was trying to say also.

    Really?

I just figured that people might want a touch report for every game, in a more accessible format than you were offering, and without an opinion attached to it. This is far from the first statistical/analytical information I've provided for this board. You didn't teach me anything about watching basketball.

I think he was just joking. I hope, time permitting, you can continue with these reports. They're great.
