The more touches Yao gets, the better. I love how they are running the offense through Yao more when he is in the game instead of the Adelman offense.
a couple bad turnovers by yao though. I think the offense sorta went back to jvg era, with most offensive sets end up being posting yao somehow (espeically you take away the t-mac pick and roll tonight). and that's not gonna get it done against good teams, we better not rely on yao THIS much.
Thanks for the hard work! For some opponents, for example: eastern teams, this method works fine, but some team, we have to have a different offense.
Just skimming over the chart it looks like he was doubled on 58.5% of relevant possessions (no high post or fast break included) and 54.3% of all possessions. In the other 3 games I've charted, it was more like 30-40%. It really opened up the perimeter.
I want to see how Adelman works on Yao's touches against teams that play him more aggressively (and with length), like Boston and LA. Otherwise it's all stuff we've seen before.
Looks like Adelman threw out the motion offense for this game, it was good old solid JVG-pound-the-ball in the middle type offense and you know what? It worked.
nice job. obviously we should feed to Yao more when we play against this kind of teams which have no bigs and do not front Yao. he can burn the defender 1-on-1 and open the space for cutter/shooter by drawing the double team. but still, we need to rest him more. his health in the long stretch is a major concern.
If this offense harkens back to JVG era, then so be it. We were much more efficient offensively last night than any JVG-era games. The important thing is we have better supporting cast alongside Yao. You are going to dwell on the couple of bad turnovers by Yao? Really? Our high TO count today came from erratic PG play.
The key was all these touches were in spots Yao was dangerous. Very little of that throw him the ball at the top of the key and let him stand with it, do nothing and then pass to someone else outside the three point line. Only thing I wish Yao would do is stop looking to pass and look to shoot. If the shot isnt there then pass. So many times it seems he can just take the 10 foot jumper but holds it and waits for the double team. Im not bashing him cuz he has been very efficient the past few games. I just wish someone told him he should be taking at least 18 shots a game.
What would be a good way to track something like this for Tracy McGrady and Ron Artest? I think it's harder for perimeter guys, because they tend to touch the ball much more often in non-scoring positions.
Appreciate the effort ClutchCity. Nice chart. Goes to show one that Yao touching the ball frequently is a good thing for all involved.
Yeah, it's tough. I mentioned it in another thread, but I think the main points that make it difficult are that the perimeter players cover more floor space (requiring more detail in the "Position" column) and double team's are much more fluid. Not to mention, there may be multiple double teams during a single "touch". It would basically be a huge headache, in my opinion.
I am impressed, especially because it's an Admin that is being productive, no offense! Other basketball forums, or forums in general, the Admins usually just act like they run the show and contribute every little besides banning.
