It's in today's Chinese newspaper that Yao says he is gonna undergo surgery on his left ankle in San Francisco, and after that CD will schedule a two-week personal training session for him to help his rehabilitation. So basically he says he won't be back to China until the end of June.

Previously, there is another piece saying Chinese bball officers say since Yao is tired he can take twenty and couple days off before reporting to CNT.

From now till the end of June, that must be fifty and couple days. eh.

The article is not on the web yet, so sorry, no link.

I was under the impression that the CNT didn't have any
    [or many] commitments this year
I though Yao got the summer off for once

CNT stated eariler Yao would be back to play tourney held in Beijing for promotions of 2008 olympics. And they also wanted Yao to train with CNT the whole to prepare for 2008. Dont shoot the messenger.

Yes they do and no he won't.

The followings are on CNT's agenda for this summer:

June 21¡ª29£ºCNT Vs One of US Bball teams

July 14-17£ºBasketball Without A Boarder Event

    July 14¡ª23£ºFOUR-NATION TOURNEY

July 25¡ª31£ºAother Tourney between Champions of different continents.

    August: Visit Australia.

    September: Asian Basketball Championship.

Sep 17-- :The Tenth National Games.

I don't know which of those Yao is required to attend and which he will be spared. But if I may take a guess, I would say he may HAVE to attend most of them. I hope I'm wrong.

this is ridiculous. yao will be spent by 30 if the CNT continues to force him to play every g*ddamn summer..... with inferior players, coaches, and trainers no less! they're making him play completely meaningless exhibition games for crying out loud! that is absolutely infuriating.

Well, sure. But try telling that to the CBA. No Yao = No $$$. The CBA doesn't have the kind of jack the NBA does, and it's imperative for them to maximize their cash cow as much as possible for the 5 months a year they have access to him.

And of course, if Yao b****es about it, they have to advantage of casting him in a disloyal light. I imagine in the next few years, however, that Yao will be so popular in China that no official would dare appear to be telling him what to do.

Ok, 95% of chance Yao will stay in China after the end of June till maybe Sep or Oct. That sucks.

CNT coaches dont give a shiat, neither do the CBA officials. They operate on different agenda, and it's very hard to sell them that. I always say that CD and company need to have a sit down with CBA, rockets babes included. It's really up to Rox management to have Yao in US over the summer. You know it's hard for Yao to refuse CBA, esp after he got so many hornors in China. Worker's model wont quit on the country.

maybe the surgery is just a ploy to keep Yao in the US for a couple of more months?

    EDIT:
JVG just said on 610AM "there are things he can work on while he is here" and that they would be sending someone over to China with him.

Surgery? You've got to be kidding. JVG played Yao most of the fourth quarter in a blow-out loss and he's facing surgery?

After the way Shaq's ankles bothered him for two years? No way I believe this.

They are going to implant some cyborg parts. After this, Yao's vertical will be 50 inches and he can dunk from the 3 point line. Yao will also get buffer and grow a goatee. His skin will darken and he'll start using slang for everything. Imagine Yao saying, "yo yo yo mah b****ezz. Gimme the tang, biatch."
