http://www.eurobasket2005.com/diamond_ball/uploads/toppld2.pdf. He is averaging 24.5 ppg on 71.4% shooting from the floor. Currently he leads all players in points per game, total points, rpg, total rebounds, shooting percentage, FTs made per game, and total FTs made. He is also second in blocked shots behind Yi. The tournament includes several of the highly ranked teams in the world and both Argentina and Serbia are in good shape to compete for a medal. And considering Yao is only averaging less than 27 mpg, we have to be pleased with the way he plays. Actually I am more pleased with his stamina. He played the whole second half yesterday against the Australia team and was pretty active the whole time he was on the court. Also remember that the international games don't have TV time out and the timeoffs are usually much shorter than what we have in the NBA......Anyway, I really like what I see from Yao in the past two days. BTW, will NBATV televise the semifinal game tomorrow? I think that China is in since there is no way Aussies can beat Serbia today.
normal that yao's physical condition is better since he had a several weeks break. It's still in doubt that he could maintain these performance untill end of the next season, especially when the rockets will make the playoffs.
Also 4th in TO per game at 4.5/game after 3 guys tied at the 1st with 5.0/game. And apparently, most teams played their starters for less than 30 mins per game. Yao's 28 mins is normal in this tournament.
Ouch, why Yao had so many turnovers? I didn't watch the game, thanks to my landlord forbad me installing dish on the roof, but I will think it was because he tried to pass the ball through double team, right?
I'm sure it's because he gets stripped a lot from the week side defender that comes around the back of Yao. It has been a problem of his for years because he likes to put the ball on the floor so much.
It sounds some mistakes would persist even for elite players. I've also seen Duncan makes some stupid TOs over and over. Maybe we should be more tolerant of Francis. Take the good with bad.
I don't think that's happened at all, actually. He's had a few offensive fouls, and a lot of bad passes into traffic.
One thing I’ve never understood about Yao is why he has such great court vision on the offensive end, yet such bad court vision when it comes to recognizing the defense. Why is he so great at always knowing where his teammates are and spotting the open man, yet so bad at spotting when a defender is waiting in the wings to pick off a pass or when a defender is coming to strip the ball away from him or when a triple team is coming.
No Never!!! Francis was evil. Pure evil. We shall continue to hate him with a ferocity equivilent to if he gave everybody on this board gonorrhea.
The reason, CBA teams don't play much defense; if they do, mostly playes 2-1-2, or 2-3 zone, so Yao didn't need to move as much on defense.
I’m wasn’t talking about Yao playing on the defensive end. I’m talking about when Yao has the ball on offense, he never seems to have a clue where the opposing teams players are. If he has such great court vision, why can’t he see when a player from the opposing team is sneaking by to slap the ball away from him? Why can’t he see when a defender is waiting in the wings ready to steal one of his passes? I don't think someone with great court vision should be nearly as turnover-prone as Yao is.
I did not see Yao get stripped once against Australia. His TO came from offensive fouls and bad passes out of the double teams that got intercepted by opponents.
When you check those individual stats, there are 2 other stat that Yao Ming led that could explain WHY he had that many turnovers. He is THE player that got the MOST number of "foul on" as well as number of free throws. He is being fouled on by as many as 22 times in 2 games, and 24 trips to the charity belt for free throws (making 19 of them). What does that mean ??? That means he was double- or triple- or fronted EVERYTIME he was with the ball, and under such situation, it's understandable that he made rash or desperate passing decisions that caused the turnovers. My 2 cent.
They did not front Yao that much in both games. Del Harris actually asked the Chinese guards to pass the ball around looking for open entry passes to Yao. Yao did not have too much problem receiving the ball. However, he did routinely see double or even triple teams once he had the ball in his hands (which might result in more TOs). One other thing that I liked about his game yesterday is that there were about 4 times that he got the ball about 14-17 feet from the basket, and he did not hesitate the shoot the ball even with double teams. He made about 3 of those shots and missed only one (from the FT line, which he was way too strong and missed badly).
4.5 TOs is still bad even you factor in the double team. I can live with 3.1 TOs which is Hakeem and Duncan's number.
you mean that little white box with the little red 'x' didn't make it instantly obvious? curse you, geocities! nevertheless, i give you, the great Francis, "Chainsaw" Gremp
